Application Menu

The Application Menu on the top of the screen is used to select commands of VectorStyler, for example: creating documents or editing object options. The structure of this menu may depend on your local settings as it can be reorganized using VectorStyler / Application Menu command. This page gives a brief description of all the menu commands available in the default menu structure of VectorStyler. The detailed description of these commands can be found in other chapters of this documentation.

The following description reflects the menu structure available by default in VectorStyler for Mac OS. The Windows version has a similar structure, with only minor differents.

VectorStyler

This menu contains the various VectorStyler customization options and the About and Quit commands. The content of this menu cannot be customized.

  • About VectorStyler - Shows a modal view with information about VectorStyler, including the version number and the copyright note. Located in the Help menu on Windows.
  • Workspaces - Opens a menu with workspace management options. Located in the View menu on Windows.
    • Default Workspace - Restores the default workspace of VectorStyler.
    • Load Workspace - Loads the workspace settings from a previously saved workspace file.
    • Save Workspace - Saves the current workspace settings to a file, that can be shared or selected later.
  • Settings - Opens a modal view to edit application settings. A detailed description of the various application settings can be found in the Settings and Customization chapter. Located in the Edit menu on Windows.
  • Application Menu - Customize the VectorStyler application menu, for more details see Settings and Customization. Located in the View - Customize menu on Windows.
  • Contextual Menu - Customize various cotextual menus show with Control+Click. Located in the View - Customize menu on Windows.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts - Customize the VectorStyler shortcut assignments. Located in the View - Customize menu on Windows.
  • Customize Toolboxes - Customize the VectorStyler toolbox or create new toolboxes. Located in the View - Customize menu on Windows.
  • Customize Icons - Customize the icons of the VectorStyler actions and user interface.
  • Hide VectorStyler - Hide the VectorStyler window. Not available on Windows.
  • Hide Others - Hide other application windows. Not available on Windows.
  • Show All - Show all applications. Not available on Windows.
  • Quit VectorStyler - Quits VectorStyler. Located in the File menu on Windows.

File

This menu contains various file and document access commands, including printing and exporting graphics.

  • New Document Setup - Opens a modal view of document templates and options used to create a new document. For detailed description of the available document options see the Document Setup chapter.
  • New Document - Creates a new document with default options or a default template.
  • New From Clipboard - Creates a new document with default options and content from the clipboard.
  • New From Template - Creates a new document by opening the file selection view to select a document template file.
  • Open Document - Opens an existing VectorStyler document using the file selection view.
  • Open Recent - Opens a list of recently closed documents.
  • Revert - Revert the current document to its previously saved state.
  • Reveal File - Reveal the file of the current document.
  • Close View - Close the current document view. This command will close only the current document view. A document may have multiple opened views.
  • Close Document - Close all views associated with the current document.
  • Close All - Close all opened documents.
  • Save - Save the current VectorStyler document.
  • Save As - Save the current document to a new file.
  • Save a Copy - Save a copy of the current document to a file, without renaming this document.
  • Incremental Save - Save a copy of the current document to an incrementally named file. The file can be inside a folder named as the current document (an option in settings).
  • Save Canvas As - Save the current canvas to a separate file. Note the a VectorStyler document contains a hierarchy of multiple canvases.
  • Export Slices - Export the slices of the current document.
  • Document Setup - Opens a modal view with document options of the current document. A detailed description of document options can be found in the Document Setup chapter.
  • Validate Document - Verify the document for missing links to external files and fonts.
  • Mark as template - Show the current document as a template when creating new documents with the New Document Setup command.
  • Import - Import images, graphics or text from selected files.
  • Link File - Link images, graphics or text from selected files. In this case the file content will not be embedded into the VectorStyler document. See the Importing and Exporting chapter for details on how to work with linked files.
  • Export - Export the selected objects, current artboard, canvas, or the whole document into various file formats.
  • Export Again - Repeat the last export command (including Slice or Artboard exporting) without any modal interaction.
  • Incremental Export - Repeat the last export command with new file names.
  • Export Artboards - Export the artboards of the current document.
  • Export Objects - Export the objects marked for exporting in the Object Export panel.
  • Print - Print the current document using various printing options.
  • Print Again - Repeat the last printing command.

Edit

This menu contains common editing and clipboard access commands applied on object selections.

  • Undo - Undo the last change in the current document.
  • Redo - Redo the last undone change in the current document. In case of multiple possible changes to redo, a menu is opened with the possible choices.
  • Repeat Last - Repeat the last action.
  • Repeat - Opens a menu with recent actions to repeat.
  • History - Opens a menu containing commands to manage the change history.
    • Remove Snapshot - Removes the current undo/redo snapshot.
    • Clear Snapshots - Clear all snapshots of the current document.
    • Purge Changes - Clears the current redoable changes (alternate redo histories) of the document.
    • Purge History - Clears the whole undo/redo history of the document.
  • Snapshot - Opens a menu with existing undo/redo snapshots of the current document.
  • Snapshot Name - Creates an undo/redo snapshot in the document by assigning a name to the current state.
  • Cut - Copies the selected objects to the clipboard and deletes them from the document.
  • Copy - Copies the selected objects to the clipboard.
  • Paste - Pastes the clipboard content into the current canvas.
  • Paste Inside - Pastes the clipboard content into the selected object.
  • Rename from Clipboard - Rename the selected objects or artboard using names pasted from the clipboard.
  • Placing - Opens a menu containing commands to copy and paste object content and to place the pasted objects at specific locations.
    • Cut Content - Moves the content of the selected group objects into the clipboard. The group content is removed.
    • Copy Content - Copies the content of the selected group objects into the clipboard.
    • Paste As Image - Paste the content of the clipboard as an image.
    • Paste in Place - Pastes the clipboard content at its original position.
    • Paste Below - Pastes the clipboard content immediately below the selected objects.
    • Paste Above - Pastes the clipboard content immediately above the selected object.
  • Attributes - Opens a menu containing commands to copy and paste object attributes.
    • Copy Appearance - Copies the appearance of the selected object to the clipboard.
    • Paste Appearance - Pastes the object appearance (if available) from the clipboard and sets it as the style of the selected objects.
    • Copy Shape - Copies the shape of the selected object to the clipboard.
    • Paste Shape - Pastes the shape (if available) from the clipboard and sets it as the shape of the selected objects.
    • Copy Style - Copies the style of the selected object to the clipboard.
    • Paste Style - Pastes the object style (if available) from the clipboard and sets it as the style of the selected objects.
    • Copy Mask - Copies the transparency mask of the selected object to the clipboard.
    • Paste Mask - Pastes the transparency mask (if available) from the clipboard and sets it as the mask of the selected objects.
    • Copy Image Effect - Copies the image effects of the selected object to the clipboard.
    • Paste Image Effect - Pastes the image effect (if available) from the clipboard and applies it as the image effect of the selected objects.
    • Copy Shape Effect - Copies the shape effect of the selected object to the clipboard.
    • Paste Shape Effect - Pastes the shape effect (if available) from the clipboard and applies it as the shape effect of the selected objects.
    • Copy Character Styler - Copies the character style of the selected text to the clipboard.
    • Paste Character Styler - Pastes the character style (if available) from the clipboard and applies it as the character style of the selected text.
  • Delete - Delete the selected objects, artboards or slices.
  • Duplicate - Duplicate the selected objects, artboards or slices.
  • Reference - Create symbolic references to the selected objects.
  • Clone - Create clones of the selected objects. The origin of a clone object is called the clone source object.
  • Detach Clone - Detach clones of the selected source object.
  • Detach Source - Detach the selected clone object from its source object.
  • Find/Replace - Opens a Find/Replace view to search for objects or text by attributes in the document.

Select

This menu contains various object selection commands and options.

  • Select All - Selects all (selectable) objects on the current canvas. If the Artboard or Slices tool is active, this command will select all artboard or slices of the current canvas.
  • Select All on Artboard - Selects all objects on the current artboard.
  • Select All Inside View - Selects all objects that fit into (or intersect with) the visible area of the current view, considering zoom and rotation.
  • Deselect - Clear the current selection.
  • Invert Selection - Inverts the selection by selecting the currently unselected objects of the current canvas.
  • Reverse Selection - Reverses the order of selection of multiple selected objects.
  • Select Inside Shapes - Select objects inside the shape of the selected objects.
  • Select Intersecting Shapes - Select objects intersecting the shape of the selected objects.
  • Select Again - Repeats the last attribute based selection type on the current object selection.
  • Select All on the Same Level - Select all siblings (on the same layer, or group) of the currently selected objects.
  • Select Previous - Select the previous object in the object stack.
  • Select Next - Select the next object in the object stack.
  • Select Parent - Select the container object of the selected objects.
  • Select All Members - Select all member objects of the selected groups.
  • Select First Member - Select the first member object inside each selected group.
  • Select Last Member - Select the last member object inside each selected group.
  • Select All Below - Select all objects that are below the currently selected objects.
  • Select All Above - Select all objects that are above the currently selected objects.
  • Select All on Other Layers - Select all objects that reside on other layers than the currently selected objects.
  • Select All Locked - Select all locked objects on the current canvas. In VectorStyler locked objects can still be selected, but cannot be modified. This command allows to select locked object to unlock them.
  • Select All Hidden - Select all hidden objects. In VectorStyler hidden objects cannot be selected by the selection tool. Hidden objects can be selected using this command or using the Layers Panel.
  • Select Missing References - Select objects that are dangling references to removed content or symbol. A symbol instance becomes invisible when the referenced symbol is removed. Dangling references can be removed, or the references replaced with existing symbols.
  • Markers - Opens a menu containing commands to create, manage and use selection markers and presets.
    • Setup Markers - Setup named object markers in the document. Named object markers can be assigned to objects and later used to select objects with specific markers. For more details on named object markers see the Selecting Objects chapter. [Selecting Objects]
    • Object Marker - Opens a list of named object markers defined for the document (see previous command). Disabled if no markers are defined. Selecting a named marker will assign or remove the marker from the selected objects.
    • Select Marker - Opens a list of named object markers defined for the document. Selecting a marker will add the objects with the marker to the current selection.
    • Save Selection - Saves the current selection (just the selection, not the objects) as a preset in the document. The Selection Panel can be used to reuse previously saved selections.
    • Select with Find Preset - Select objects with previously saved Find/Replace presets.
    • Selection - This menu also contains the selection presets saved in the current document. Selection presets can be used to reuse specific selections. For more details on selection presets see the Selecting Objects chapter.
  • Select Similar - Shows a list of options to select objects by similar attributes to the currently selected objects.
  • Select by Attribute - Shows a list of options to select objects having some specific attribute.
  • Isolate Selection - Isolate editing to the content of the selected object group.
  • Clear Isolation - Clears the current group isolation context and returns to selection on the whole canvas.
  • Exit Isolation - Exist the current group isolation context into its parent group (or the whole canvas).
  • Duplication Mode - Select the duplication mode when copying objects on the canvas.
  • Drawing - Opens a menu containing object drawing placement options.
    • Draw on Top - Draw new objects on top of the object stack.
    • Draw Inside - Draw new objects at the bottom of the object stack.
    • Draw at Bottom - Draw new objects at the bottom of the object stack.
    • Draw Behind - Draw new objects below the selected object.
    • Draw Above - Draw new objects above the selected object.
    • Drawing Location - Select the current object as the drawing target where new objects are created.
    • Clear Location - Clear the selected drawing target and draw new objects onto the canvas.
    • Exit Location - Exit the selected drawing target into its parent group.
  • Options - Opens a menu containing object selection options.
    • Intersecting Selection - If checked, the marquee (box, lasso) selection tool will select objects that are intersecting the designated area. If unchecked, only objects that are inside the designated area are selected.
    • Select by Outline - If checked, objects can be selected only by clicking on their outline.
    • Allow Locked Objects - Check to allow the selection of locked objects on the canvas.
    • Search for Locked Objects - Check to search for locked objects when using attribute based selections.
    • Select Inside View - Check to search for objects inside the visible view area.
    • Select Inside Artboard - Check to search for objects inside the current artboard.
    • Select Inside Layer - Check to search for objects inside the current layer.
    • Inside Selection - Check to search for objects inside the current selection.
    • Select Siblings - Check to search for objects at the same place (layer or group) as the selected object(s).
    • Search Neighboring Objects - Check to select objects immediately above and below the selected object when using selection by attribute.
    • Style Picker Mode - Change object style picking mode between using (Option) to pick and then apply, or pick current style and apply previous (alternating).
    • Shape Picker Mode - Change object shape picking mode between using (Option) to pick and then apply, or pick current shape and apply previous (alternating).
    • Pick Shape Effect - If checked, the object shape picker tool will also pick the shape effects. Otherwise only the shape is picked and applied.
    • Referencing Shape Picker - If checked, the object shape picker will create references to the original object shape. Otherwise the shapes are copied. When shape references are created, modifying the shape of the original object will automatically update the shapes of objects modified by the shape picker.

Canvas

This menu contains commands to manage the hierarchy of canvases defined in a document and to create and setup artboards on the current canvas.

  • Canvas Options - Edit options of the current canvas, like canvas extent, default artboard layout or canvas roles. For a detailed description, see the Artboards and Canvases chapter.
  • Create Canvas - Creates a new canvas after, before or inside the current canvas.
  • Create Canvas Category - Creates a new top level canvas category. By default, VectorStyler has three top level canvas categories: Reference, Template and Artwork.
  • Show Canvas - Select the canvas type to show. Each canvas type may contain a hierarchy of canvases.
    • Reference - Show reference canvases.
    • Template - Show template canvases.
    • Artwork - Show regular document canvases.
  • Template Canvas - Show template canvas options.
    • Change Template Canvas - Select a template canvas for the current canvas.
    • Lock Template Canvas - Lock the content of the template canvas. If unlocked, the template canvas content can be freely edited from the current canvas. Otherwise, the objects of the template canvas cannot be selected or modified.
    • Show Template Artboards - If checked, the artboards from the template canvas are shown.
    • Show Template Guides - If checked, the guidelines from the template canvas are shown.
    • Show Template Objects - If checked, the objects from the template canvas are shown.
    • Synchronize Canvas Styles - Synchronize symbol references in the current canvas using symbol and object names.
  • Duplicate Canvas - Copy the current canvas and insert after, before or inside the current canvas.
  • Canvas Role - Select the canvas role of a Reference canvas. This menu is enabled for reference canvases only. Canvas roles can be used to automatically assign roles to objects residing on the canvas.
  • Canvas Guides - Select a reference canvas to be used as a guide.
  • Canvas Data Grid - Setup the data source and a grid for the current canvas.
  • Synchronize Canvas Styles - Synchronize canvas local styles by name.
  • Delete Canvas - Deletes the current canvas.
  • Delete Empty Canvases - Delete empty canvases in the current canvas group.
  • Delete Canvas Category - Delete a canvas category other than the default categories.
  • Remove Canvas Guidelines - Remove all guidelines from the current canvas or the current artboard.
  • Create Artboard - Creates one or more new artboard by specifying the artboard options in a modal view.
  • Delete Artboard - Delete the current artboard.
  • Delete Canvas Artboards - Delete all artboards from the current canvas.
  • Expand Artboards - Expand the automatically generated artboard layout of the current canvas, so that individual artboards can be edited.
  • Artboard Options - Edit the artboard options of the current or selected artboards.
  • Arrange Artboards - Arrange artboards of the current canvas in a grid.
  • Resize Artboard to Selection - Resize the current artboard to match the selection size.
  • Resize to Artboard - Resize the selected objects to the artboard.
  • Convert to Artboards - Convert the selected object frames to artboards.
  • Create Guidelines - Create a grid of guidelines on the current artboard.
  • Detach Artboard Slice - Creates a new slice from the slice associated with the selected artboards. Artboard slices can be set with the artboard options command.
  • Go To - Opens a menu of canvas and artboard browsing commands.
    • Previous Artboard - Select previous artboard (PageUp).
    • Next Artboard - Select next artboard (PageDown).
    • Goto Artboard - Go to a specific artboard by its index.
    • Artboard by Name - Go to an artboard by name.
    • Next Artboard by Name - Go to the next artboard by name.
    • Previous Artboard by Name - Go to the previous artboard by name.
    • Previous Canvas - Select the previous canvas in the canvas hierarchy of the current document.
    • Next Canvas - Select the next canvas in the canvas hierarchy of the current document.
    • Template Canvas - Select the template canvas in the canvas hierarchy of the current document.
    • Member Canvas - Select the first member canvas in the canvas hierarchy of the current document.
    • Go to Template Canvas - Go to the template canvas of the current canvas (if defined).
    • Return to Canvas - Return to the previous regular canvas of a template canvas.

Object

This menu contains object editing commands like grouping, layers and shape operations.

  • Transform - Opens a menu with various modal transform options. See the Layers and Objects chapter, for a detailed description on each of these commands.
  • Arrange - Opens a menu with various object stacking order commands, used to rearrange the order of appearance of the selected objects, including a command to place selected objects into the key object.
  • Group - Create a group of the selected objects.
  • Group Overlapping - Create separate groups from overlapping objects.
  • Ungroup - Ungroup the selected group objects.
  • Ungroup All - Ungroup all groups inside the selected objects.
  • Locked - Lock or unlock the selected objects. If this menu is checked, the selected objects are locked, otherwise they are unlocked. Locked objects are still
  • Hidden - Hide or show the selected objects. If this menu is checked, the selected objects are hidden and were selected using the Select All Hidden command or the Layers Panel.
  • Unlock All - Unlock all objects in the current canvas.
  • Show All - Make all objects visible in the current canvas.
  • Rasterize - Rasterize the selected objects into an image and keep the image in the document. The object(s) cannot be edited after converting to images.
  • Create Layer - Opens a modal view to create a new layer.
  • Create Adjustment Layer - Opens a menu hierarchy of image filters to create an adjustment layer.
  • Object Options - Edit the selected object options, like name, opacity or blending mode.
  • Layer Options - Edit the current layer options.
  • Rename Objects - Rename the selected objects.
  • Object Role - Select the object role for the selected objects. This menu opens a list of possible object roles. In VectorStyler object roles are used to setup “virtual” styles from objects (with the same name as the object) and use these styles throughout the application. Changing the object with a role will automatically update the associated style uses. This menu shows the most recently used roles, to access all object roles, select the More Roles command.
  • Size Reference - Select the object as a size reference for snapping object sizes when resizing objects.
  • Select Clone Source - Change the clone source object of the selected clone object. This menu will list objects that are suitable to be clone source objects, that is, they were marked with the “Clone Source” role.
  • Cloned Properties - Check or uncheck properties of the selected objects that are cloned.
  • Combine Path - Opens a menu of various shape combination options like Union, Intersection and Exclude. If used from this menu, the shape combination command will convert the selected objects to curves and create a new object with the resulting shape.
  • Composite Shape - Opens a menu of various shape combination options that can be applied to create dynamic composite shapes. In VectorStyler, composite shapes are made of other shapes using a shape combination operation (like Union, Intersection and Exclude), and the original shapes remain editable. If a group of objects is selected, these commands will combine the shape of objects in the group to create a composite group. Original objects and their shapes in the group can still be selected and edited.
  • Break Apart - Breaks a composite shape or path with multiple sub paths into separate objects.
  • Separate Path - Breaks a composite shape or path with multiple sub paths into separate objects, by separating the path into non-overlapping parts.
  • Convert to Curves - Converts the selected object shapes to curves (paths) including corner shapes.
  • Intersect Clipped Groups - Expand clipped groups by intersecting shapes inside the group with the clipping shapes.
  • Expand Clipped Groups - Expand clipped groups by expanding strokes and intersecting shapes inside the group with the clipping shapes.
  • Intersect with Last - Intersect the selected objects with the shape of the last selected object.
  • Expand and Intersect - Expand the strokes and intersect the selected objects with the shape of the last selected object.
  • Flatten Opacities - Flatten opacities of overlapping objects filled with solid colors.
  • Simplify Path - Simplifies (smooths) the selected object shapes by removing some of the unnecessary control points.
  • Shape - Opens a menu of object shape adjustment commands.
    • Offset Path - Create new objects by offsetting the shape of the selected object(s).
    • Split Object Shape - Split the selected objects into a grid or other form.
    • Revert Path Direction - Reverts the direction of the path of selected objects.
    • Normalize Winding - Rearranges self intersecting parts of the object shapes so that winding and even/odd fill styles will be the same.
    • Clean Stray Segments - Remove short segments and stray points.
    • Remove Overlapping Segments - Remove overlapping and duplicate segments from the selected paths.
    • Flat Curves to Lines - Convert all flat curves to lines in the selected shapes.
    • Intersection Points - Creates new control points at self intersecting locations of the selected object shapes.
    • Cut Path at Intersections - Intersect the selected paths and cut at the intersection points into open paths.
    • Cut Path with Last - Intersect the selected paths with the last selected path and cut at the intersection points into open paths, except the last.
    • Cut at Cusp Nodes - Separate the selected paths into open paths at the cusp nodes.
    • Connect Overlapping Nodes - Connect the selected open paths at overlapping nodes.
    • Separate at Intersections - Separate the selected path at self-intersection points.
    • Remove Corners - Removes all corner rounding from the selected object.
    • Clear Object Shape - Removes the shape of the selected groups. The object must have a content (like group of object) in order for its shape to be removable.
    • Reset Object Shape - Reset the object shape to a rectangle.
    • Select Shape - Select the object shapes from the shape of the last selected object.
    • Link Shape - Link the object shapes to the shape of the last selected object.
    • Convert to Lines - Convert the select object shapes to lines.
    • Convert to Dashes - Convert the select object shapes to to the dashes of the stroke attribute.
    • Convert Shapes to Curves - Converts the selected object shapes to curves (paths) but keeps the corner shapes and shape effects editable.
    • Clear Shape Builder State - Removes all shape builder state info from the current document.
  • Content - Opens a menu of object content adjustment commands.
    • Winding Fill - Swaps the selected object fill mode between winding and even/odd schemes.
    • Relative to Frame - If checked, the content of the selected objects (images, linked files) are set relatively to the object frame.
    • Proportional - If checked, the content of the selected objects (images, linked files) are scaled proportionally to the original content size, regardless of how the object is called.

Styles

This menu contains commands to manage, edit, expand and create object styles and presets.

  • Color Settings - Edit application level color calibration settings.

  • Document Colors - Edit document embedded color calibration settings.

  • Preset Manager - Manage application, document and other preset groups. Presets can be rearranged, grouped, and new preset folder created.

  • Document Styles - Edit, remove or create the various style definitions made in the document. Styles are used define reusable object styles, shapes or symbols (among others), with the ability to automatically update the used styles when the style definition is modified.

  • Canvas Styles - Edit, remove or create canvas level styles and style overrides of the current canvas. A canvas can override the value of the style defined in the document, so that objects and symbols using that style will have a different look when placed in this canvas.

  • Object Styles - Edit object level style overrides. Document and canvas level styles can be replaced with different values for individual objects or groups. The Overrides Panel provides an interactive access to selected object style overrides.

  • Symbol Parameters - Manage symbol parameters. Symbol parameters can be used to setup styles and variables used inside a symbol, that can be managed as overrides on symbol instances.

    • Object Parameters - Edit the selected object parameters used to define local styles and variables.
    • Remove Parameters - Remove all parameters from selected objects.
    • Capture Parameters - Capture the styles and variables used in the selected object as parameters.
    • Synchronize Parameters - Synchronize the styles and variables used in the selected object with document level styles and variables, using the style name.
    • Publish Parameters - Publish the styles and variables used in the selected object globally.
  • Document Links - Add or remove linked documents. In VectorStyler, linked documents are external documents (optionally can be embedded), whose style and symbol definitions can be automatically used in the current document. If a linked document is not embedded, then it must be carried with the document file. Linked documents allows the easy reuse of predefined styles and symbols.

  • Open Linked - Open a linked document associated with the current document.

  • Update Links - Manually update styles and symbols from linked document.

  • Overprint Options - Edit the overprinting options of the canvas or selected objects:

    • Document Overprint - Edit the document level common overprinting options.
    • Canvas Overprint - Edit the overprinting options of the current canvas.
    • Object Overprint - Edit the overprinting options of the selected objects.
  • Style Activation Groups - Create, remove and manage style activation groups. In VectorStyler, style activation groups are used to mark styles or symbols (or linked documents) for active or disabled state. This allows the definition of different style or symbol groups, for the same purpose, and a quick switching between these groups, by activating and deactivating them. Style activations can be thought of as themes for illustrations or designs. For a detailed description on how to use style activation groups see the Symbols and Styles chapter.

  • Create Slicing - Creates a 9-slice scaling scheme for the selected object or object group. 9-slice scaling schemes are used on symbol definitions, to control how the symbol instancesare scaled.

  • Remove Slicing - Remove the 9-slice scaling scheme from the selected objects.

  • Shape Paint - Create and manage shape paint groups. A shape paint group allows the dynamic styling of regions of intersecting shapes inside a group. The following commands are available:

    • Create Shape Paint - Creates a new shape paint group from the selected object.
    • Release Shape Paint - Releases the selected shape paint group into its constituent objects.
    • Expand Shape Paint - Expand the selected shape paint group into separate objects.
    • Shape Paint Options - Edit the options of a shape paint group.
  • Repeater - Create and manage repeater objects:

    • Repeater Options - Edit the repeater options.
    • Create Repeater - Create a new repeater from the selected object(s).
    • Expand Repeater - Expand the selected repeater content.
    • Release Repeater - Release the selected repeater content.
    • Remove Repeater - Remove the repeater content from the selected object(s).
    • Detach Repeater - Detach symbols and style references in the selected repeater content.
  • Create Gradient Mesh - Create a gradient mesh from the selected object.

  • Expand Appearance - Expand the appearance of the selected object(s) into separate objects.

  • Expand Symbol - Expand selected symbols into objects. The symbol reference will be removed, and the symbol content copied as a separate object.

  • Expand Group - Expand combine groups (made with the Edit - Compsite menu commands) into an object with the resulting combined shape.

  • Expand Linked File - Expand the graphics content of the selected objects.

  • Expand Pattern Tiles - Expand the tiling pattern content into separate objects.

  • Expand Stroke - Expand the outline stroke of an object into filled shapes.

  • Crossing Stroke - Expand the outlines of the selected objects, leaving crossing stroke shapes.

  • Expand Brush - Expand the selected brush into its content with a bend effect.

  • Clear Content Transform - Clear all transformations applied to image or linked content.

  • Remove Content - Remove image or linked file content from the selected objects.

  • Create Styles - Opens a menu with various style and preset creation commands. Styles and presets can be created for stroke cap shapes, stroke arrow shapes, corner shapes, art brushes, pattern brushes, scatter brushes, tiling patterns and symbols.

  • Replace Objects - Replace the selected objects with symbols.

Text

This menu contains various text related commands used to specify character and paragraph formatting styles, manage text frames and text on path links, and select text decoration options.

Some commands of the Text menu related to Japanese typography are shown only if enabled from the application settings.

  • Installed Fonts - Opens a menu with a list of installed fonts in the host operating system.
  • Recent Fonts - Opens a menu with a list of recently used fonts.
  • Font Style - Opens a menu with a list of font styling options. The content of this menu depends on the (bold, italic) styling options available for the selected font.
  • Font Size - Opens a menu with a list of common font sizes.
  • Panels - Opens a menu with commands to activate or deactivate panels related to text formatting. This include the Character, Paragraph, Typography, Text Decorations, Text on Path, Text Wrap and various Glyphs panels.
  • Text Frame Options - Edit the selected text frame options in a modal view. This includes setting multiple columns and rows in the frame and balancing text in multiple columns.
  • Text Wrap Options - Edit the text wrap options of the selected objects. Text wrap options are used to define how a text flow will avoid an object.
  • Character Options - Edit the character options of the selected text in a modal view.
  • Paragraph Options - Edit the paragraph options of the selected text in a modal view.
  • Clear Character Overrides - Remove all character option overrides from the selected text.
  • Clear Paragraph Overrides - Remove all paragraph option overrides from the selected text.
  • Text on Path - Fit the selected text along a selected path by setting the text on path options.
  • Release Text on Path - Release the selected text from the path.
  • Text Conversion - Convert frame text to shape or shape text to frame, depending on the current selection. The name of this menu item depends on whether a vector or a frame text object is selected.
  • Convert Frame Text to Path - Convert the selected text frame content to curves.
  • Fit Text Frame - Fit the selected text frame sizes to the size of the text content.
  • Convert Labeling to Text - Convert automatic paragraph labeling to editable text.
  • Expand Text Styles - Convert linked text styles into local styles.
  • Vertical Text - Select vertical or horizontal text direction.
  • Text Frame - Opens a menu containing text frame adjustment commands:
    • Link Text Frames - Link selected text frames.
    • Extract Selected Frames - Extract the selected text frames from the text flow and create a separate text flow.
    • Extract Frames Before - Extract the frames before the selected frame and create a separate text flow.
    • Extract Frames After - Extract the frames after the selected frame and create a separate text flow.
    • Transform with Groups - Enables or disables the transformation of text content inside groups.
    • Transform with Frame - Enables or disables the transformation of text content with the frame.
    • Rotate with Frame - Enables or disables the rotation of text content with the frame.
  • Hanging Punctuation - Edit the hanging punctuation styles associated with the current document.
  • Kinsoku Options" - Edit the kinsoku shori styles associated with the current document.
  • Mojikumi Options - Edit the mojikumi options used in the current document.
  • Character Mappings - Edit character mappings used in text composition.
  • Japanese Options - Additional Japanese language typography options.
    • Warichu - Enable or disable warichu mode of the selected text.
    • Warichu Options - Edit the warichu options of the selected text.
    • Tate-chu-yoko - Enable or disable the tate-chu-yoko mode of the selected text.
    • Tate-chu-yoko Options - Edit the tate-chu-yoko options of the selected text.
    • Create Ruby - Create ruby text associated with the selected text.
    • Ruby Options - Edit the ruby options of the selected text.
    • Remove Ruby - Remove the ruby text associated with the selected text.
    • Kenten - Select kenten options of the highlighted text.
    • Remove Kenten - Remove kenten from the highlighted text.
    • Shatai - Edit the shatai options of the selected text.
  • Convert Punctuations - Convert text punctuations like quotes, ellipses or dashes.
  • Split Text - Split text into characters, words or lines.
  • Change Case - Change the case of the selected text.
  • Insert Character - Insert special characters at the current location into the text.
  • Insert Shape - Insert an inline shape as a glyph into the text at the current location. Inline shape roles can be assigned to objects using the Object Role command. Inline shapes are formatted with the text as any regular glyph.
  • Insert Object - Insert an inline symbol as a styled glyph into the text at the current location. Inline symbol roles can be assigned to objects using the Object Role command. Inline symbols are formatted with the text as any regular glyph, but they retain the styling attributes of the symbol.
  • Insert Variable - Insert a variable text at the current position.
  • Replace Fonts - Replace fonts in the document.
  • Hyphenations - Edit hyphenation options of the document.
  • Font Manager - Manage fonts used in the application. In VectorStyler it is possible to install various font types, without installing them into the host system. For example it is possible to scan the content of a folder for font types and use them in the application, without installing these fonts in the OS.
  • Rescan Fonts - Rescan all fonts installed in the OS or from folders specifyed in the Font Manager.

Effects

This menu contains various color, shape and image effects that can be applied to selected object. A detailed description of these filters and effects can be found in Color Filters, Image Effects, Shape Effects, Blending and Contour chapters.

Color Filters

These filters will change the colors in the selected objects (including gradient color stops) without converting the selection to an image. More on color filters in the Color Filters chapter.

  • Adjust Colors - Opens a menu with various color adjustment filters.
    • Color Mode - Convert the color of selected objects to a specific color mode. This color filter can be used to convert vectors to gray color, or from RGB to CMYK colors.
    • Curves - Adjust the colors in the selected objects by specifying color component adjustment curves for all or individual color channels.
    • Levels - Adjust the colors in the selected objects by adjusting the color levels.
    • Brightness and Contrast - Adjust the brightness and contrast levels of the colors in the selected objects.
    • Invert Colors - Invert the colors in the selected objects.
  • Auto Adjust - Various automatic histogram based color, tone, saturation and brightness filters.
  • Shift Colors - Opens a menu with various color shifting and conversion filters.
    • Black and White - Convert the colors in the selected object to gray tones by setting the amounts each color channel contributes to the gray levels.
    • Channel Mixer - Mix color channels in various color modes.
    • Color Balance - Adjust the color balance of the colors in the selected objects by adjusting midtone, highlight and shadow levels.
    • Hue Adjustments - Adjust the hue value of the selected object colors.
  • Map Colors - Opens a menu with various color mapping filters.
    • Color Map - Map colors to tones of a gradient.
    • Selective Color - Adjust color channels selectively.
    • Match Color - Match colors of the selected objects to colors in another opened document.
    • Match Histogram - Match the histogram of the colors in the selected objects to colors in another opened document.
  • Color Tones - Opens a menu with various color tone adjustment filters.
    • Saturation - Adjust the amount of saturation in the colors of the selected objects.
    • Vibrance - Adjust the vibrance of the colors.
    • Photo Filter - Apply a photo filter on the colors of the selected objects.
    • Posterize - Posterize the colors in the selected objects, by reducing the number color tone levels.
    • Solarize - Apply a solarize filter to the colors of the selected object.
  • Replace Colors - Opens a menu of various artwork recoloring options.
    • Replace Colors - Recolor artwork using complex color mapping options.
    • Colors from Palette - Replace the colors in the selected objects, or the whole canvas, with colors from a palette.
    • Nearest Color - Replace the colors in the selected objects to the nearest color of another (opened) document.
    • Nearest Palette Color - Replace the colors in the selected objects to the nearest color from a color palette.
    • Min/Max Color - Convert colors to grayscale by selecting a tone between minimum/maximum color tones.
    • Adjust Color - Adjust color component levels by selected amounts.
    • Disturb Colors - Disturb color component levels randomly.
    • Colorize - Recolor the selected artwork using various options like randomly generated colors, random palette or variation selections, or colors from a generated noise.
  • Style Mixer - Opens a menu with various commands to adjust colors of multiple selected objects.

Object Effects

  • Blend - Opens a menu with commands to create, edit, remove or expand object blends. Object blends can be created between two or more objects and can be aligned along an arbitrary path. For a detailed description, see the Blending chapter.
  • Contour - Opens a menu with commands to create, edit, remove or expand object contours. Object contours can be used to create an expanding blend for an object shape and style. More on the contour effects in the Contour chapter.

Shape Effects

This section contains shape distortion effects. Shape effects can be applied to a group of objects (objects must be grouped) without destroying the ability to edit the original shape or style of these objects. Shape effects are nondestructive and multiple shape effects can be stacked over a single object group. For a detailed description of individual shape effects read the Shape Effects chapter. When invoked from the menu, shape effects are added by editing their attributes in a modal view.

Shape effects can also be added by using the Shape Effect Panel. and their attributes can be edited interactively using the various shape effect tools accessed from the application toolbox, or the shape effect editor tool from the shape effect panel.

  • Distortions - Opens a menu with a set of shape distortion effects like Concentric Warp, Noise Wave, Noise Zigzag, Ripple, Shear, Twirl, Wave and many others.
  • Mesh - Opens a menu of various shape warping effect types. These effects include 4-Point, Bending, Elastic Warp (a.k.a puppet warp), Envelope and Mesh Warps.
  • Outline - Opens a menu of shape effects that adjust the outline by offsetting or adding/removing detail. These effects include shape Detail, Offset Path, Outline Path, Outline ZigZag, Overlay and Shape Corner.
  • Warp - Opens a menu of various geometric shape warping effects, including Arc, Arching, Bulge, Flag, Inner Wave, Inflate, Rising Side, Sponge, Vase and many others.
  • Edit Shape Effects - Edit the stack of shape effects applied to the selected object or group in a modal view.
  • Remove Last Shape Effect - Remove the last shape effect applied on the selected object.
  • Remove All Shape Effects - Remove all shape effects (including transformations) applied to the selected object.

Image Effects

This section of the menu, contains a large number of image effects. Image effects are applied on objects nondestructively, meaning that, individual objects and their attributes remain editable. The image effect is applied during the rendering of the current canvas.

Multiple image effects can be stacked on top of an object group to achieve complex effects. Using large amount of stacked effects may degrade display performance. For more details on using image effects see the Image Effects chapter.

  • Blur - Opens a menu of various blur effects, including Box, Concentric, Cone, Disc, Gaussian, Motion, Noise, Radial, Wave and Zoom Blurs. Some of the blur effects allow arbitrary shapes edited by the user to specify local blur direction .
  • Color - Opens a menu of various color adjustment effects. These are similar to the color filters applied to objects. In this case the effects are applied after the objects are rendered. These effects are also suitable as adjustment layer effects.
  • Distortions - Opens a menu with a set of image distortion effects (similar to the shape distortions) like Concentric Warp, Noise Wave, Noise Zigzag, Ripple, Shear, Twirl, Wave and many others. These effects are applied after the objects are rasterized.
  • Generate - Opens a menu containing various image generation effects like Brushed Metal, Flare, Lens Flare, Start Shine and Turbulence. The Noise effect allows the selection and generation of a large number of synthetic noise images.
  • Mesh - Opens a menu of various image warping effect types. These effects include 4-Point, Bending, Elastic Warp (a.k.a puppet warp), Envelope and Mesh Warps applied on objects as images while rendering.
  • Pixelate - Opens a menu containing various pixelation image effects like Chrystalize, Halftone, Pixelate, Pointilize, Spot Grid and White Noise.
  • SVG - Opens a menu containing the basic SVG filters. If installed, additional SVG filters automatically show up next to this menu.
  • Stylize - Opens a menu of various sylization filters like Add Brush, Add Noise, Bevel, Bloom, Despeckle, Drop Shadow. Edge Work, Emboss, Haze, Inner/Outer Shadows, Inner/Outer Glow, Sharpen and Stamp.
  • Warp - Opens a menu of various geometric image warping effects (simmilar to the shape warping effects), including Arc, Arching, Bulge, Flag, Inner Wave, Inflate, Rising Side, Sponge, Vase and many others.
  • Edit Image Effects - Edit the stack of image filters applied to the selected object or group of objects in a modal view.
  • Remove Last Image Effect - Remove the last image effect applied on the selected objects.
  • Remove All Image Effects - Remove all image effects applied to the selected objects.

View

This menu contains various document viewing and editing options, including collision and formation snapping, grid and guideline setup and display options.

  • New View - Opens a new view of the current document. A document can have multiple views opened at the same time. Each view can display a different part of the document (including different canvases).
  • Change Screen Mode - Shows the document in a full screen mode.
  • Subpixel - Select the screen mode of the current document view.
  • Refresh - Reset the current canvas and redraws the document.

Display

  • Display Options - Opens a modal view to edit all available display options. The Display Options view is organized into multiple tabs, for a detailed description, see the Viewing Options section.
  • Split Preview - Enables or disables the split viewing mode. In split viewing mode, the document view will be split into two areas with different preview modes.
  • Vertical Split - Select the split viewing mode to be in the vertical or horizontal direction.
  • Outline Preview - Show the current document in outline preview mode.
  • Pixel Preview - Show the current document in pixel preview mode. The resolution used in pixel preview can be set in the document options.
  • Monochrome Preview - Show the document in vector preview mode while rendering all colors in monochrome.
  • Vector Preview - Show the document in vector preview mode. This is the default preview mode for illustrations.
  • Direct Preview Editing - Enable or disable immediate preview when interacting with the document. In complex documents containing large number of objects, it may be more efficient to disable immediate preview as it can make interacting with the document faster.
  • Show Hidden Characters - Check to show the hidden characters in text shapes or frames.
  • Transparency Grid - Show or hide the transparency grid. The transparency grid is used to indicate areas of the document with varying opacity.
  • Outline Invisibles - Check to show invisible objects in wire frame mode.
  • Guide Image Mode - Switch the guide image modes between regular display, showing edges or hidden. See the Trace Guide panel for more info.
  • Display Image Effects - Check to display image effects on the canvas.
  • Preview Image Effects - Check to preview image effects in the Layers panel preview icons.
  • Proof Setup - Edit the color profile options used in color proofing preview mode.
  • Proof Colors - Enable or disable color proof preview in the current document.
  • Gamut Warning - Enable or disable gamut warning using the color proof settings.

Zooming

  • Actual Size - Zoom the document to its actual size using the current display resolution.
  • Zoom to Canvas - Zoom to show the whole canvas. This option is available only for limited size canvases (not for an infinite canvas).
  • Zoom to Artboard - Zoom to show the current artboard.
  • Zoom to All Artboards - Zoom to show all artboards on the current canvas.
  • Zoom to All Objects - Zoom to show all objects.
  • Zoom to Selection - Zoom to show the selected objects.
  • Rotate View - Rotate the document view to a specific angle.
  • Zoom In - Zoom into the document.
  • Zoom Out - Zoom out of the current zoom level.
  • Rotate View by 5.0 - Rotate the view by 5 degree in counter clockwise direction.
  • Rotate View by -5.0 - Rotate the view by 5 degree in clockwise direction.

Indicators

  • Show/Hide Ruler - Show or hide the document ruler. The ruler can be used to interactively drag and create new guidelines in the document.
  • Show/Hide Text Baseline - Show or hide the text baseline indicators.
  • Show/Hide Missing Fonts - Show or hide the missing font highlight indicators.
  • Enable Snapping - Enable or disable all snapping in the current document.

Guides

  • Show/Hide Grid - Show or hide the grid.
  • Show/Hide Guidelines - Show or hide the guidelines of the current canvas and artboards.
  • Lock Guidelines - Lock or unlock guidelines. If locked, guidelines cannot be moved or rotated while editing the document.
  • Make Guides - Create guideline shapes from the selected top level objects. Objects must be in a layer (not inside a group) to be suitable for guideline shape.
  • Release Guides - Release selected guideline shapes. The selected objects will be rendered with their original styling.
  • Snap to Grid - Enable or disable grid snapping mode while editing.
  • Snap to Guide - Enable or disable guideline snapping mode while editing.
  • Snap to Artboard - Enable or disable artboard margin snapping mode while editing.
  • Snap to Slices - Enable or disable snapping to slice margins.
  • Snap to Objects - Enable or disable snapping to object boundaries (this option is also known as smart guides).
  • Snap to Selected Size - Enable or disable snapping object sizes while resizing or drawing.
  • Snap to Shapes - Enable or disable snapping to shapes. This allows point locations to be positioned on a shape.
  • Snap to Tangents - Enable or disable snapping to tangents and normals of curves.
  • Snap to Points - Enable or disable snapping to intersection points of different shapes.
  • Collision Snapping - Enable or disable collision snapping. In collision snapping, moved objects will collide with other objects, and are positioned to match with arbitrary shapes.
  • Formation Snapping - Enable or disable formation snapping. In formation snapping a selected object is positioned at a specific location creating a geometric formation with two other objects.
  • Snap to All Layers - Enable or disable snapping to objects on all layers. If disabled, only objects of the current layer are used in snapping.

Margins

  • Show/Hide Canvas Margin - Show or hide the canvas margin. This option is useful for limited size canvases only.
  • Show/Hide Slices - Show or hide the export slices on the current canvas.
  • Show/Hide Artboard Margin - Show or hide the artboard margins. The artboard margin spacing can be set in the document, canvas or artboard options view.
  • Show/Hide Artboard Bleed - Show or hide the artboard bleed indicator.
  • Show/Hide Artboard Frame - Show or hide the artboard frame.
  • Show/Hide Artboard Label - Show or hide the artboard name label.
  • Show/Hide Slice Label - Show or hide the slice name labels.
  • Clip to Artboard - Clip canvas content to artboards. If enabled, objects outside of artboards will not be visible.
  • Show Outside of Artboard - Show objects outside of artboards (when clipped) using outline mode.
  • Dim Outside of Artboard - Show objects outside of artboards in dimmed mode.

Panels

This menu contains all the panels accessible in VectorStyler. Most panels have a single instance, but some (like palette, presets, layers) allow to open multiple instances of the panel with different content/

  • Arrange Views - Arrange the current document views using various layout forms. These options can be used when editing multiple documents.
  • Toolbox Style - Opens a menu with various options to set the application toolbox style. The detached tool groups can be removed using the Remove Detached Tools command.
  • Toolbox - Show or hide the application main toolbox.
  • Toolboxes - Opens a menu of user defined custom toolboxes to show and hide. Custom toolboxes can be created, edited and managed with the Customize Toolboxes command of the application menu.
  • Context Panel - Show or hide a horizontal contextual panel containing selection specific commands and options.
  • Properties - Show or hide the properties panel containing selection specific commands and options.
  • Alignment - Show or hide the Alignment panel. The Alignment panel is used to align objects relative to each other, or to align objects along a path. It is also possible to align object sizes relative to a selected object size.
  • Appearance - Show or hide the Appearance panel. The Appearance panel can be used to edit all the styling attributes of one or more selected objects. This includes the creation and editing of multiple fill and outline styles on a single object. In VectorStyler, when multiple objects are selected, the Appearance panel can be used to drag and drop various style elements (fills and outlines) from one object to another. Shape and image effects can also be added to individual fill or outline styles of a selected object.
  • Brushes - Show or hide the Brushes panel. The Brushes panel is used to select attributes and content for various brush types. The panel lists all the defined brush style presets and styles, including artistic, pattern, scatter and bristle brush types.
  • Canvas & Artboard - Show or hide the Canvas & Artboard panel. The Canvas & Artboard panel shows the hierarchy of canvases included into the current document. Each canvas may contain an arbitrary number of artboards. The names of canvases and artboards can be directly edited in the panel. The canvas and artboard options are also accessible from this panel.
  • Color - Show or hide the color selection panel. The Color panel provides the numeric and spectrum based color selection options. The panel also provides a list of defined color styles and color object references.
  • Color Palette - Show or hide the Color Palette panel. The color palette shown in the panel can be changed to any of the available color palettes, or loaded from an external file. It is also possible to open multiple color palette panels, each with a different palette.
  • Color Variations - Show or hide the Color Variations panel, The Color Variations panel provides color selection options based on a set of variations of the current color. The type and intensity of these variations can be selected in the panel.
  • Links - Show or hide the Links panel. The Links panel shows the list of embedded or linked content in the current document, including images, postscript or pdf files, or other linked document types.
  • Corner - Show or hide the Corner panel. The Corner panel contains the corner shape and size selection options. In VectorStyler, arbitrarily shaped corners can be applied to any path containing cusp nodes.
  • Editing - Opens a menu with panels for guidelines, snapping and selections.
    • Document Info - Show or hide the Document Info panel. The Document Info panel presets various statistical information about the current document.
    • Grid - Show or hide the Grid panel. The Grid panel contains the current document grid options. Separate grid systems can be set up for a document, individual canvases and or the artboards of a canvas.
    • Guidelines - Show or hide the Guidelines panel. The Guidelines panel can be used to manage a set of guidelines associated with the current document, canvas or artboard. Each artboard can define a separate set of guidelines. Multiple named groups of guidelines can be created, each group containing multiple guidelines. Each guideline group can have a group specific color used to display the guidelines.
    • History - Show or hide the History panel. The History panel contains the available editing history of the current document. The editing history can be stored with the document (in the Document Options view), and if a stored history is available the history slider can be used to quickly jump to various editing stages of the document. In VectorStyler all alternate histories created by the use of Undo command are stored, and the History panel can be used to browse through these alternate histories.
    • Magic Wand - Show or hide the Magic Wand panel. The Magic Wand panel is used with the Magic Wand tool to select objects with similar attributes. These attributes include fill style, stroke style and width, opacity, blending mode and object size.
    • Navigator - Show or hide the Navigator panel. The Navigator panel is used to show and change the current canvas zooming and rotation state. In VectorStyler, the document view can be rotated at an arbitrary angle. The document view zooming level, rotation angle and panning position can be adjusted also from the Navigator panel.
    • Selection - Show or hide the Selection panel. The Selection panel can be used to create object selection presets stored with the document. These selections can be recalled from the selection panel at any time while the document is being edited.
    • Slices - Show or hide the Slices panel. The Slices panel is used to manage the set of slices created on the current canvas. Slices are used to setup various regions of a canvas for exporting into one or more files and file formats. The Slices panel contains a list of slices defined on the current canvas, and for each slice the list of file formats and files set for exporting.
    • Snapping Options - Show or hide the Snapping Options panel. The Snapping Options panel can be used to set the various types of snapping modes supported by VectorStyler. These include grid, guideline and smart guide snapping, but also collision and formation snapping modes. Additional attributes of formation and collision snapping modes can be edited from the panel, including setting up multiple collision distances.
  • Effects - Opens a menu with panels used in various object, shape and image effects.
    • Blend - Show or hide the Blend effect panel. The Blend panel is used to create blends (transitions in shape and style) between two or more objects.
    • Contour - Show or hide the Contour effect panel. The Contour panel is used to create contours around objects. A contour is made of repeated offsetting and styling of an object shape.
    • Image Effects - Show or hide the Image Effects panel. The Image Effects panel is used to create and edit image effects associated with the selected object. When multiple image effects are stacked on an object, the panel contains a list of views with the attributes of those effects.
    • Shape Effects - Show or hide the Shape Effects panel. The Shape Effects panel is used to create and edit shape effects associated with the selected object. When multiple shape effects are stacked on an object, the panel contains a list of views with the attributes of those effects.
  • Gradients - Show or hide the Gradient panel. The Gradient panel can be used to setup gradient fill and outline styles on selected objects. If the gradient is an outline style, the Gradient panel contains the option to display the gradient along or across the outline. The Gradient panel also provides the option to create and edit gradient transparency masks.
  • Image Trace - Show or hide the Image Trace panel. The Image Trace panel is used to convert pixel images into vector objects.
  • Layers - Show or hide the Layers panel. The Layers panel is used to browse the hierarchy of objects of the current canvas. A document may contain multiple canvases, each with a separate layer and object hierarchy. In VectorStyler, multiple instances of the Layers panel can be kept open to access different canvases or content of different groups or layers.
  • Links - Show or hide the imported graphics and text content links panel.
  • Noise Fill - Show or hide the Noise Fill style selection panel. Various noise styles can be selected as a fill or outline style, or as a transparency mask of the selected objects.
  • Object Export - Show or hide the Object Export panel. The Object Export panel is used to mark objects for exporting in a collection with common exporting formats. Objects are exported into multiple separate files, using different file formats. Export profiles may define style overrides to export variations of objects or symbols.
  • Path - Show or hide the Path panel. The Path panel contains various path and node editing operations, including boolean combination modes of multiple shapes, and options to change the type of selected nodes.
  • Patterns - Show or hide the Patterns panel. The Patterns panel is used to setup tiling patterns for the fill or outline style of the selected objects. The content of the tiling pattern can be any object or group of objects (marked with the Tiling Pattern Content tole) from the current canvas or other canvases of the document. The tiling pattern style can be interactively edited using the Pattern tool. The Patterns panel can also be used to setup transparency masks on selected objects using tiling patterns.
  • Repeater - Show or hide the Repeater panel. The Repeater panel is used to create and manage repeater objects.
  • Shape - Show or hide the Shape panel. The Shape panel is used to edit the attributes of selected parametric shapes (rectangles, ellipses, stars, polygons and other shapes that can be created in VectorStyler). The Shape panel also contains options to save and reuse the shape of the selected objects.
  • Stroke - Show or hide the Stroke panel. The Stroke panel can be used to set the various outline attributes of the selected objects, including stroke width and offset, cap and arrow shapes, dash and stripe styles, and variable stroke width profiles.
  • Stroke Width - Show or hide the Stroke Width panel. The Stroke Width panel is used to adjust and edit complex variable width stroke profiles on selected objects.
  • Trace Guide - Show or hide the image tracing guide panel. The Trace Guide panel is used to turn images into guides for the manual image trace tool.
  • Text - Opens a menu of panels used in text formatting.
    • Character - Show or hide the Character panel. The Character panel is used set character level formatting attributes of the selected text. These include among others: font family and weight, font size, kerning and tracking.
    • Glyphs - Show or hide the Glyphs panel. In this default form, the Glyphs panel shows the list of glyphs defined in the font used by the currently selected text. If the glyphs of an other font are needed, the font can be selected from a drop down list in the panel. Glyphs of other font files (not installed into the system), or SVG fonts can also be accessed, by opening the font files from the panel menu Open Font File or Open SVG Font File commands. Glyphs can also be dragged into the document, to create single glyph shapes. The Glyphs panel can also be used to show and insert in-line shapes and objects at the current position in the edited text.
    • Paragraph - Show or hide the Paragraph panel. The Paragraph panel contains paragraph level text formatting options, including text alignment, indentation and inter-paragraph spacing.
    • Spell Checker - Show or hide the Spell Checker panel. The Spell Checker panel is used to check spelling in the document or the selected text.
    • Tabs - Show or hide the Tabs panel. The Tabs panel is used to setup tab-stop positions and alignments in the edited text.
    • Text Decorations - Show or hide the Text Decorations panel. The Text Decorations panel contains character level decoration options like underline, over-line or character background style.
    • Text Wrap - Show or hide the Text Wrap panel. The Text Wrap panel can be used to setup text flow-around or text wrap options of selected objects.
    • Text on Path - Show or hide the Text on Path panel. The Text on Path panel can be used to fit a selected text to a selected path and set the text on path options.
    • Typography - Show or hide the Typography panel. The Typography panel can be used to set advanced typographic options at character level, provided by OpenType fonts. The type of options available in the panel depend on the OpenType features available in the selected font.
  • Transform - Show or hide the Transform panel. The Transform panel can be used to apply basic transformations on selected objects.
  • Transparency - Show or hide the Transparency panel. The Transparency panel is used to setup transparency masks on selected objects. The type of transparency mask can be selected in the panel, and the mask can be edited by double-clicking on the preview area.
  • Palettes - Opens a menu of panels for various color palettes.
    • Color Palette Bar - Show or hide the Color Palette Bar. The Color Palette Bar is shown at the margin of the document view and provides a quick access to the document color palette. The palette displayed in the color palette bar can be changed in the palette menu.
    • Create Palette from Image - Creates a color palette from the most frequent colors of an image. When invoked, the user is asked to select an image file. Once the file selection is confirmed, a view is opened with the selected image and the generated palette. The number of colors extracted from the image can be set in this view.
    • Open Palette - Open a color palette panel using an existing palette file. In VectorStyler, color palettes of various formats (including other application specific formats) can be scanned from folders specified in the application settings. These palettes will show up in this menu, and can be opened in a separate color palette panel. If there are no color palette folders specified, this menu will show the available default system palettes.
    • Open Palette File - Open a color palette panel from an existing color palette file. Color palette files of various formats are supported.
    • Palette Presets - Open a color palette panel using a previously saved color palette preset.
    • Document Colors - Show or hide an existing application level or document color palette.
  • Presets - Opens a menu of preset panels.
    • Actions - Show or hide the Actions panel. The Actions panel is used to record and playback sequences of VectorStyler actions applied to a document. The actions are stored and managed as presets.
    • Brush Presets - Show or hide the Brush Presets panel. The Brush Presets panel lists the available brush presets of various types. The list of brush presets can be managed using commands from the panel menu. New brush presets (of artistic, pattern, bristle or scatter type) can be created using commands from the panel menu. The brush presets are shown separately from other presets for convenience and ease of access.
    • Document Presets - Show or hide the Document Presets panel. The Document Presets panel lists the presets stored in the document. These presets can be shown separately from application level (or external) presets, to allow the inclusion of useful presets into the document.
    • Open Brush Preset File - Open a brush preset file into a separate panel. This command can be used to access vector brushes from Illustrator files.
    • Open Preset File - Opens a preset panel from an existing preset file.
    • Open Preset Folder - Opens all the preset files (of known format) in a folder into a preset panel;.
    • Presets - Show or hide the main Presets panel. This panel contains the presets defined in VectorStyler and presets stored in folders specified in the application settings. Multiple preset collections can be defined and managed using panel menu commands, or the Styles - Preset Manager command.
    • Recent Actions - Show or hide the Recent Actions panel. The Recent Actions panel contains a list of most recently used actions and changes to the document. These actions can be quickly recalled from this panel.
  • Styles - Opens a menu of styling panels.
    • Brush Styles - Show or hide the Brush Styles panel. The Brush Styles panel contains a list of brush styles defined in the current document. The brush styles are shown separately from the styles for convenience.
    • Character Styles - Show or hide the Character Styles panel. The Character Styles panel lists the character level formatting styles defined in the current document.
    • Data Sources - Show or hide the variable data sources panel.
    • Overrides - Show or hide the Overrides panel. The Overrides panel is used to setup style overrides on selected symbol instances. A symbol definition may contain multiple style uses defined at document level. These styles can be redefined locally of individual symbol uses using the style override panel.
    • Paragraph Styles - Show or hide the Paragraph Styles panel. The Paragraph Styles panel lists the paragraph level text formatting styles defined in the current document.
    • Styles - Show or hide the Styles panel. The Styles panel lists the various styling definitions stored in the document.
    • Symbols - Show or hide the Symbols panel. The Symbols panel contains a list of symbols (including objects set with the Symbol role) defined in the current document. These symbols can be inserted into the document to create symbol instances.
    • Variable Values - Show or hide the number, condition and selector variable panel.
