I am trying to create an intertwined medieval pattern. 0_1765823726309_465b20bb-0075-4495-a6e4-587a3ae75031-image.png

Please could you point out where the intertwine pattern effect tool is?

      Work: Windows 11 | Intel i9 14900HS (24 Cores/32 Threads) | GeForce RTX 4070 | 64 GB RAM
      Personal: Windows 11 | Amd Ryzen 9 7950X (16 Core, 32 Threads) | GeForce RTX 3060 | 32 GB RAM

        @Daniel

First create an intertwine group with Styles -> Intertwine -> Create...

The tool can be found here:
        0_1765824322406_intertwine.png

You will need different colors for those lines to see any effect.

@VectorStyler Thank you! I used a painfully manual process. Let me try this one now.

Oh no! It does not work on pure black?

This is what I wanted to create. But this done in the old way. Manually. By setting up white cutting lines. Turning them into shapes and cutting the lines with them.

That took me 45 mins. 😞

Is it possible to allow intertwine to work on pure blacks. Please see the knot path effect in Inkscape. That's what I am looking for. But in Inkscape, the knots don't follow the path direction, so they lead to very jagged edges. See what I mean?

"Crossing Gap" is the right Effect for something like this
you found it under Shape Effects it Works with a single stroke,
btw with the new mirror feature you may able to create something
                  this way a little faster

                  Intertwine works differently

@Subpath: Nope. Very similar problem. Leading to strange distortions.

Even in your example, you can see what the problem is: The gap does not follow the path. 😭

in the meantime i found a way to create (fake) gaps with the Intertwine Effect.

Create your Stroke, Expand that Stroke and give it a white outline
now you could use the the Intertwine Effect to fake gaps.

@Subpath: This too failed eventually. Getting the gaps to follow the direction of the path was difficult. I did however manually complete the project.

It's for an AI-based security firm. The central pentagon stands for the SOC, the security operations centre. The circles on the outer perimeter represent the constant social listening of the AI engine. The interlocking lines show unending stream of data. The filled blue hexagons represent co-ordination and continuous monitoring. Sort of like a beehive. 🙂 Wanted to share because the client was chuffed and I was very excited.

@Daniel This might be solvable with some new features in the Intertwine tool.

First I will try to fix the stroke crossing gap problem, but that cannot solve this case with multiple objects

I can't find "Intertwine" anywhere. Is there a search function for menu items, tools or operations?

@ThatMikeGuy "Intertwine" between the "Halftone" and "Drop Shadow" menus (around the middle).

You need to select some objects to activate the menu

The object in your pic seems to be a single stroke ?
For single stroke you have to use the "Crossing Gap"
Shape effect, you find it under Outline shape effects

the interwine effect needs at least two Objects

the intertwine tool is here, see pic

While our developer is working the intertwine and crossing gap function, I thought through a simple but very effective solution based on @Subpath's suggestion, which might be useful to others who want create intertwine effect perfectly.

                                            First, sketch out your idea:

                                            0_1766151088102_5cce2a15-f9af-4e14-9411-46ba12f9a063-image.png

Mark out alternating sections of above and under for the knotting.

Then create your vector shape. 0_1766151144714_3012e868-1cbe-47cc-9a7d-c56db49a7df7-image.png

                                            Then, expand the stroke:

                                            0_1766151191425_ae1c4d73-5c4f-411e-9cc7-52b4aa79b3fc-image.png

Then apply a stroke to the expanded shape.

Then expand the shape again. Now you'll have two set of expanded strokes.

                                            0_1766151245908_db3cba17-0635-4a13-b029-d1d9e3131ae5-image.png

Now, use the shape builder and cut out the under portions of the knot. You'll be left with the desired result.
