Line Drawing Tool: Can't use the Delete key to remove the line immediately after Mouse release

If you draw a line with the Line Tool, and decide you don’t want to keep it, if your first action after releasing the Mouse is to to try to delete it by pressing the Delete Key on the keyboard, it will not be removed- even though it is of course selected, and is confirmed as such in the Layers Panel.
You must use a second step and use the Pointer Tool to select it, then the delete key will delete the line.
