Compound shape with a cloned object ?
-
I don't know if this is a bug, and if not, if it will ever be possible, but every time I create a compound shape with a simple object and a cloned object, it crashes VS.
-
@Pat It is a bug, I will try to replicate it.
-
@VectorStyler Thanks. I'm not having any more success trying with text so I can modify the design by changing the text
-
@Pat Is there an example I could use where this crash occurs? I tried to replicate it with a basic case, but seems to be working here.
The text + shape combining had a bug, the fix will be in the next build (unrelated to cloning).
-
@VectorStyler I finalise the document as before until VS crashes and send it to you.
-
@VectorStyler file sent
-
@VectorStyler ... and you should have received at least one crash report related to this issue

@VectorStyler After creating a compound shape, the text is no longer editable. I've also tested with a cloned object, but the objects are no longer editable.Is it possible that it remains so? Thanks.

Not with compound shapes and cloned objects. The problem is that when the compound shape is created, the shapes are copied from the source object (including the clones).
One solution is to use groups (same as Illustrator):
- group the objects.
- select the compound shape operation on the group.
- the members of this group remain editable objects.
- but this is not a compound shape, but a group with a shape combining operator.
The other way to keep things editable (and have an actual compound shape) is to use reference shapes:
- create the objects with the shapes (text or other).
- set a name for each object and set the Shape role.
- create two (or more) other objects.
- set the shape "styles" on these objects.
- then create a compound shape from these objects
- this will result in an actual compound shape with member shapes linked to the original (with role) objects
I attached an example of this second case: 0_1718374332985_compoundshape1.vstyler

@VectorStyler Thanks
I had tried Clone & Reference objects, and I tested your file. The objects are not fully editable. I can change the size but not other parameters (e.g., colour, object clipping an object etc.) nor can I reflect the repeater action... and I was testing for this last repeater feature.

colour, object clipping an object etc
these are not part of the shape, only the shape is kept in a compound shape.
I will check the repeater for this use.

@VectorStyler Yes, that's right I'm mixing up different tests and trying to pass on an action...
