Eraser tool fills negative space and deletes solid space when set to zero sizing

I noticed that the path eraser tool fills in negative space and deletes existing solid space when the size is set to zero.
I realize that "zero" is not a realistic setting anyone uses and is only there as a stopping point, but felt it should be brought up in case there's a way to stop that from occurring.
