The "select and transform members of grouped objects" option for the transform tool gives strange results when moving ungrouped objects

The "select and transform members of grouped objects" option for the transform tool gives strange results when used on a selection of multiple objects not necessarily all grouped together as one. You can see in this video, that some parts seem to fly around in unwanted ways.
As soon as I grouped everything in the selection first, it moved them around as expected.
I understand it's meant for selecting within groups and such, but is the strange behavior (as perceived by me) normal?

It happens to me from time to time. I thought I didn't set the child/parent link right in some options but it may be a bug.
