Object Distribution Bug

  • I've attached a video of the issue ...

    link text

The blue texts are actually objects and not text.

Selecting and distributing them vertically shouldn't move the largest one to the top ?

It should simply adjust the second and third lines between the first and last.

    TIA

@Igull This is not really a bug. The order in which objects are considered for distribution is set to "Selection Order" by default.
In the "Alignment" panel menu, there are 3 options for this:

    • "Selection Order" will distribute in the order they are selected.
    • "Object Order" in the stacking order (which will be similar for this case).
    • "Geometric Order" will consider the object positions, this what should be active probably for this case.

Arghhh, caught by a default preference again 🙂

TBH, I'd have thought that the default would have been geometric, can't think of ever having to distribute any other way - however, the fact that you can is a plus for VS 🙂

Just changed and saved my default 🙂

    Thanks

I agree with the opinion that the default should be the geometric option. That would be the expectation for how align would perform for a new user and what I use most of the time as a long time user. The options are awesome and i'd like to learn to incorporate them more into my workflow.
I'm always amazed at the number of options available in VS

Yes, this could be easily changed. The problem is that one of the first (expected) behavior of alignment is to select an object, then shift+select an other and align left/right/top/bottom/center.
And this case relies on the selection order.

On the other hand, once selected, the alignment order remains persistent after restart also.
