Merge and Expand Stroke Not fully Cooperating

  • I don't know if this is specifically a merge issue or an expanding strokes issue - or some of each? Merging is greatly improved in this new build - I can already see that by using it today.
The biggest place I run into issues is cleaning up foreign vectors others made in other vector programs. The example I have included here is a doozy.
The original vector (black version at bottom) came with a fill and a stroke with a different black color. What I would typically do is select all or select a word at a time and make the fill and stroke the same color then select all and expand stroke. This would end up converting some strokes but not all. thinking I had converted all strokes with that single command, I would move on to merging/uniting them and then run into issues getting a clean merge because something was still a stroke... it's almost like VS can't fully expand a multiple piece selection.
I also ran into issue trying to merge down the words "A Superior Landscaping Service" I ungrouped it and had expanded everything but it would not let me ungroup far enough to do a clean merge on all the shapes - the problem was, to ungroup further would have filled all the negative spaces in. That was what I ended up doing and then going one by one through all the negative spaces, making them another color and then merging again and removing the interior color.
i included in the file the original file (in black) and the version i had been spending a lot of time slowly working through.
The goal is to get the entire vector to be one fill color - the stroke expanded and merged with the rest of the fill, no negative space fill-ins and all the same color.

if anyone is willing to try it, I'd appreciate seeing if you run into issues making it happen with just a few steps. thanks!

@Boldline I can replicate the issue.
it looks like some of the stroke colors are just a bit different from the fill colors.

Select all shapes to be merged, and set a color first. Then merging works better.

On the smaller letters of this example, merge still fails.

  • @vectoradmin I was pretty sure I had made the fills and strokes the same color prior to trying to merge...but I just tried it all again and it worked very well this time. So maybe I did something wrong in the process. I'll keep trying it out and seeing if I run into more problems - thanks!
