  @gotanidea No, this is still an open problem. There was a related bug that it was solved, but the other case (very large text frame) is still open. I found that on a regular artboard size, 12pt frame text typing is alright. It gets slow with very large frames and small text. It is an open bug, and will get solved in the 1.2 phase.

  @Harry Yes, this is by design. The pan tool (or any other tools) are blocked while in a modal view. I will try to improve this in the future if possible. Meanwhile, it is better to use the Shape Effects panel to edit effects and have panning available also
