Can not duplicate/copy shape by selecting it in Layers panel
-
I had this issue a few times today with ellipses. The only way to make a copy was selecting object from artboard.
-
@encart Just clicking an object's name in the Layers panel doesn't select it — you need to click the circle after the 'eye' icon, then [EDIT: Copy & Paste] should work.
-
@encart Layers panel selections are not the same as selections on the canvas. But they can be made to synchronize in the Layers panel options.
To duplicate in the layers panel, select the objects (in the panel) and click on the second button in the bottom of the panel, or Option+ drag these into some plate in the panel.
You can also Option+ drag from the panel onto the canvas.

@vectoradmin Alt+ drag works, Duplicate shortcut works, but Copy & Paste shortcuts (CTRL+C CTRL+V) does not.
When I press that combination and than Undo , the tool tip shows " Undo Rename Objects".

@encart An explanation on Copy&Paste in the layers panel:
In the Layers panel CTRL+C/V will not copy & paste objects, but the object names.
This allows the renaming of multiple objects in one step through the clipboard, using newline separated names. For example if you write in a text editor the following names in separate lines:
Object Name 1
Object Name 2
Object Name 3Then select these, copy to clipboard, in the Layers panel select 3 (or more) objects and press CTRL+V, then these objects are renamed using those names in the order of appearance.
This can be used to rename multiple objects in a single step, with names copied from a text file, a spreadsheet, or from some other place.
The same feature is also available in the Canvas&Artboards panel, to rename multiple artboards.

@encart I think this was mostly a new app problem. Are there still issues with copying in the Layers panel (clipboard is used for renaming)?

@vectoradmin Sorry, I thought I wrote back in this thread.
It's ok, but I wouldn't be able to unravel this mystery on my own. I just expected the behavior to be analogous to other applications. Now I know the rules.
