Offset Path Panel - A couple of bugs with Combine and Preview

  • Some bugs in Offset Path (Object->Shape->Offset Path):

    1. When placing a check mark next to the Boundary Offset, it is not honoring/following the Path Panel “settings".
    • For example, when the setting in the Path Panel is for “Creates Separate Boundary” (ie, creates the Boundary with No Fill at the Top of the Layer stacking order), it ignores this setting and instead… incorrectly uses the “Creates Filled Boundary” option instead.
    1. Selecting Boundary Offset correctly switches “Combine” option to Before, but when *Unchecking Boundary Offset, it does not “revert” back to None. I think it is supposed to.
    • Any future selected Offset Option (Inner Offset, Mirror Offset, Delete Original, etc.) “retains” the “Before” Combine setting instead what I thought was the default setting of None for everything except Boundary Offset.
    1. No Preview of Delete Original Path: If Preview is checked, and then you put a check mark next to Delete Original Path, it does not instantly/automatically show an updated Preview of this setting. In order to get an updated and correct Preview, you have to first Uncheck Preview, and then secondly, Re-check Preview.

@Vector-Rock Points (1) and (2) are actually by design.
In (1) the Path panel settings is only for the boundary operation when used as a separate command..
In (2), the switch occurs because without combining before, the boundary makes no sense, but it is of course possible to combine without using the boundary.
    (3) looks like a bug, added to the backlog.

Ok, I understand. I thought you set the process up to, first check with (reference) the Boundary settings; then, based on that, continue to create the Boundary, then apply the Offset. That way you had more options available.

So if using Boundary Offset from the Offset Panel, that means it only/always creates the Boundary Offset Below the objects, taking on the Fill (and stroke) attributes of the bottom (first drawn) object, right ?

Exactly. I agree that it would make no sense.

What I was trying to point out is that if you put a check mark next to Boundary Offset Path, then for whatever reason (made a mistake, changed you mind, etc.), uncheck it (which of course means it will be an "Outside" Offset), ......or check some other different Offset Option instead, the Combine setting stays at Before.

I thought unchecking a Boundary Offset would automatically reset the Combine setting to None.

Because it stays at Before, even though you are not using Boundary Offset, you have to manually remember to go back into the Combine Setting and set it back to None (unless by chance you happen to want a "before" setting for one of those other settings).

It appears that whatever the last Combine setting was, regardless of what option Offset Option you choose, the default behavior of VectorStyler is to "remember" it, even when starting a new document.
