VS unresponsive/unstable when paired with pen tablet
-
Hi:
I've noticed that VS begins to sputter and struggle quite a bit when paired with the pen tablet. When I try to drag and drop curves within the layers panels to clip path, it produces odd results - or sometimes no results at all. The curves begin to flicker violently.
That's not all - the tooltip does not show up when hovering. Sliders go crazy in the contextual menu. Clicks don't open anything. While an excellent program, the constant necessity to switch between mouse and pen eventually overwhelms me - and I end up defaulting to Illy. @VectorStyler: I know you're trying really hard - so let me know if I can help you somehow.
I've tried using three different brands of pen tablet to confirm this is not a tablet issue. My drivers are up to date. My screen resolution is set correctly. My tablet-to-screen ratio is also set correctly. No other program (Affinity Designer, Illy, Xara, Inkscape) has this behaviour - hence I can report with some certainty that it is a VS stability issue. If you want, I can screen record and post, but the forum has limits on how big the file can be - so not entirely sure how I can help. Thank you!

@Vivek What kind of tablet was this happening with? Was it on Windows or Mac?
-
It happens with Huion Giano, Artisul A102, and XP. All three are pen tablets. I use Windows 11 on a gaming PC. Which is overpowered for design.

@Vivek Can you make a short recording of some of the glitches when using the tablet? Thanks!
-
@Vivek It is a known problem. I've mentioned this many times in my threads. In the latest, I found the solution.
In short - disable Windows Ink to operate VS with no problems but without stylus pressure sensitivity.
I really hope that @VectorStyler will fix this issue soon.

@Vivek I added the WinTab driver support to the Windows version. If the wintab driver is present, the Settings -> Application section will have a "Use Tablet Driver" option (last in the right column).
Enabling this should enable the pressure support when Windows Ink is off.

Hi: Thanks for this! This did not solve my problem, unfortunately. Instead, when I switched off windows ink and changed to use tablet driver, it completely disabled my tablet. I was able to move the cursor but interactivity was completely gone. This really is the only thing that's standing between me and a full switch to VS. So, please fix this when you can - I want to say as soon as you can - but I know you have your roadmap.
I also need two other vital feature: a toggle for relative vs absolute brush sizes sizes vs zoom levels on the path brush tool as well as using the most recent attributes by simple selection. But I know you said features aren't coming any time soon - that's okay.
More urgently, I need better tablet support sans the unpredictable behaviour. Thank you!

@Vivek Some additional tablet types will be tested soon.

@Vivek Tested it with the XP Pen tablet (deco1 v2) and indeed there are a lot of problems. It turns out that the XP Pen driver does not follow the wacom spec for the wintab interface.
I will try to have a fix for this in the next build.
I hope that the other tablet drivers (Huion, etc) have the same issues, and this fix will work for those also.
