Printing compatibility issue
-
@VectorStyler
Two weeks ago, I introduced VectorStyler to a client in Chad. After purchasing VectorStyler, the client reported that they couldn't print. The printer they were using was purchased with my assistance, and I also bought the same printer for myself. I tested the printer and confirmed that it indeed couldn't print. Over the past few days, I have been teaching the client some basic operations of VectorStyler, creating several templates they needed, and showing them how to make modifications. Currently, they are exporting PDF and TIFF files from VectorStyler and then importing them into other software for printing.Today, I conducted some tests regarding the printing issue. I tried several different brands and models of printers, and they all worked fine except for the one purchased for the client. However, when I tried printing using various other software, it worked without any problems. Only VectorStyler seems to have printing issues, indicating a compatibility problem. If I have time tomorrow, I will record the printing process and send you an email with the recording and the printer driver.

@Li-Xiao Is this on Windows? Was printing to file working?
Can you print some examples to a file from VectorStyler using the printer, and send me those files by email?
-
@VectorStyler He asked me to remotely control his computer and directly operate it to teach him. I noticed that he was using the French version of Windows 11. However, he is unable to print any content. When attempting to print, the paper moves about 2cm and then stops. No content is printed. On the same printer, any built-in programs provided by the operating system can print without any issues. I tried several Office software, and they all printed correctly as well. The problem only arises with VectorStyler. Today, I also tested various other software, and apart from VectorStyler, all the other software can print correctly. I will send the files tomorrow if I have time.
-
@Li-Xiao Also send me the printer type and driver version.
-
@VectorStyler Sure, I will prepare the relevant files and send them together.

@VectorStyler Files sent

I came here to report the same problem. It "prints", but it doesn't output anything (ie shoots paper straight through). With this document, I was using a custom size.
I did record that session. I have the files and also will include a screenshot of the printer make.
Normally with this printer, I setup everything from the print driver. If I enable "Print Preview" in Brother, it will always show the preview for confirmation before the print job is actually pushed to the printer. For some reason, in VS this setting is ignored, which might indicate there's some communication missed there.
I do not know what these settings are for... they're not accurate as to the capabilities of the printer itself.

I will try to replicate the printing issue.

This is the paper size for VS to print on, can overwrite the default paper size.

@VectorStyler If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

I will have this bug still open. I think it is some sort for VS <> printer driver compatibility issue on Windows.
-
I have a new printer. I sent you the tests for it directly.
-
@debraspicher Got the files, I will try to find out what causes the issues.
-
I only did one print, but it does seem like the print alignment issue is fixed. I haven't done rigorous testing or anything.
It still ignores the Print Preview option in the print dialog, so probably ignoring all the other settings there as well.

I will try to fix this.

I did a test print now because I just needed a simple peak at a draft and yes, it still ignores Print Preview. This is a known. Bizarrely, however, it won't print a Layer group that has reduced opacity. I seem to remember encountering this before. It's almost like it is being treated as a template Layer.
Having the ability to add bleeds in our PNGs/JPG exports would help get around this as printing in-software is not so critical where color management is usually handled best from software focused specifically for printing. (with appropriate export and correct profiles).

@debraspicher I open a new bug on this.
Is there an example document which I can use for replicating this?EDIT: and what was the printer?
-
@VectorStyler The printer used is in my signature (Epson ET-8550). I'll make a document.
Also, I noted trying Microsoft Print to PDF, I can only output an Adobe Postscript file (*.ps). Was curious what would happen there...
I made a folder of files here so it's easier to see what is happening and included the .ps file:

@debraspicher Got it, thanks!

The opacity issue can be partially replicated here. Here it will print the object, but without opacity.

@VectorStyler I've had that happen as well
