it might be that it has to do with the specific selected object, or the hierarchy.Have just revisited this today, the issue is still there - as you suggested, it may have something to do with the object - it was an imported PDF of a bit image (around 1Mb) and I see the same thing on a couple of other images on the workspace (also around 1Mb, they're not on the artboard if that makes a difference ??).
I can mail the file if you wish.

If an object is locked in the layers panel, you can't rename it in the Object Options Panel - that kind of explains the "issue".
Apologies for taking up the bandwidth, I wouldn't expect to be able to change anything if it was locked.
I did ask if maybe a doughnut popup might be arranged that could fire up saying - Idiot - the item you are attempting to modify is locked

This still looks the same to me ? If the object is locked, the rename panel allows you to change the text of the name, but doesn't rename it (as before and as I would expect).
But there's no message or indication to say that the item is locked and can't be renamed ?Neil
