New Move Tool does not work reliably when Artboard is zoomed out.
-
Hello,
- To replicated this bug, make a few rectangles of various sizes on your artboard at a "normal" view zoom level (around 100% - 125%-ish). Make sure create a few tiny rectangles as well.
- Zoom out to 50-60% or so and, with the move tool selected, try grabbing some of the smaller shapes.
- Smaller shapes will select, but the will not move with the mouse cursor.
- Selecting a number of the smaller shapes and attempting to move them will also not move them.
There seems to be a threshold with this bug that I cannot quantify. A certain size of selected shape(s) at a certain zoom level will select, but other selections at smaller zoom levels will not. Please experiment.
Using VS 1.1.024 on Windows 11.

@Victor-Vector Added this to the backlog. Will try to replicate.

@Victor-Vector What might help is to share the actual file you made where you discovered the issue with @vectoradmin. That way he is working with the exact scenario you ran into and could more likely repeat it and find the solution faster
-
@Boldline I understand, but really it's a user opening a new file, drawing a bunch of rectangular shapes of different sizes, with some small ones, zooming out and trying the Move Tool to select and move the shapes, as described above.
Do you not get the same issue?Happy to send a file if requested.

@Victor-Vector I understand what you are thinking.
I'm approaching it from a different direction - first, there are sometimes other mitigating factors that may be causing the issue that you/me are unaware of in our example that @vectoradmin may not have set in the same way with his example. Secondly, the less menial things @vectoradmin has to do to recreate a task, the more time he has for fixing other issues. So if you or I has already done the work, we can save time not having someone else re-do the same thing. If it's a 2 second thing to recreate, then it's easier for him to just do it - if it takes longer, I try to include it.

@Victor-Vector @vectoradmin
I ran into a similar situation as @Victor-Vector described, but I didn't have to even zoom in or zoom out to get the result Here is a video of that using shapes not converted to curves. It appears if I select an edge, it will grab it for sure, if I grab in the middle of a shape, the likelihood of it working goes down dramatically.
I also tried it again after the shapes were converted to curves and got a similar result.
Sample file is attached - top one is pre-converting to curves, bottom set is post-conversion to curves

@Boldline Understood. I always try to make sure any bug reports are written and illustrated as clearly as possible. It is important to me that the VectorStyler team's time is respected, I totally agree.
In this case, the scenario should be able to be replicated very easily, in a few seconds, with a few rectangles drawn on the screen. That said, I would gladly upload a file to @vectoradmin's email if requested, but I also am being mindful not to spam the VS inbox.
@Boldline have you tried this yourself? Do you get the same issue? As I mentioned, I am using Windows 11, so a test in MacOS could help.
-
@Boldline thanks for giving that a try on MacOS.
I don't seem to have the ability to attach a file to a forum reply, so that's also why I did not send a *.vstyler file.
Is this something I can do? Or is it only for higher level permissions?
-
@Victor-Vector I had just tested it out and found similar issues - my response with video links and the sample file is in the post right above your last one - do you see it?
The other reason to share the files when possible is because of hidden settings you might be using that @vectoradmin is not - if you have save history turned on especially, he can easily contrast your file to his own and potentially solve the issue faster. It's the little things that matter here, that's all I'm saying.
By the way, the "vectorstyler team" is just one man! With the magnitude of ingenuity and sheer productivity output week after week you'd think it was a team of 100 at least! I thought the same thing for a long time.

Is this something I can do? Or is it only for higher level permissions?I'm sure you know this already but this is what you press to upload a file:
Files are a little bit temperamental in VS forum - they need to be small in order to post successfully. It's not about having special permissions as a user that I'm aware of. Many times my own file upload attempts fail because of "excessive" file size.
Files that fail, or that I know for sure will be unsuccessfully uploaded due to forum upload size restrictions, or if it includes somewhat private info, I will just email to @vectoradmin directly. I send him a ton of files often! lol
-
@Boldline @Victor-Vector yes, this can be replicated. will be fixed ASAP.
-
@Boldline I think I was composing my response when you responded.
All points taken. Thank you.I agree, @vectoradmin is a Legend! Not only is he doing the work of many, he is also one of the most responsive and positive developers I have ever met on a forum. I am always blown away at how excited he is to add features that are solicited. All in the name of making VectorStyler the best Vector art app it can be.
Cheers!

@Victor-Vector Good job finding that issue so quickly and bringing it to @vectoradmin's attention - Fixing this bug will immensely help the move tool productivity

I did not realize it was size related. Thank for clarifying this for me. I will use it!

@Boldline This problem should be fixed in build 1.1.048
