ALL layer thumbnails are redrawn much too often

  • Whenever I for example delete an object whereever it is - inside a layer or outside, topmost, EVERY thumnail is redrawn if I delete it or move it from layer to layer. If I send it backward one step all thumbnails in the active layer are redrawn. Also if there is no overlap with the other objects, if the object is positioned all alone in the corner.

Renaming a layer/object also doesn't have to trigger a refresh.

This is of course unnessasary work for the software and my attention is constantly drawn to this activity in the panel.

    🙂

  • @Ingolf Great observation here. I just tested that out in VS as well as in Affinity and like you described, the layers all refresh in VS and only the applicable ones do so in Affinity. It is distracting and creates extra work for VS

@Ingolf , I've enjoyed seeing a lot of your improvement ideas and requests. Many are things I have not noticed, so it's nice to see things adressed from a wide range of angles. Some of them are things I've noticed but assumed there was no answer to or were just a result of the way the program needed to be, etc..

Thanks buddy. Well, VS is amazing and needs some iterations of UI love and stability fixes, otherwise I find it utterly impressive. I am trying not to compare it too much with Illustrator, Affinity and Corel.

Further, feedback here is welcomed and listened to without the tons of human noise in another well known product forum (I believe you are active there as well). I appriciate what I see here and more than anything the amazing developer. I wish the project and him all the best.

I hope my tiny contribution can make a difference.

Yes, I pop in over there occasionally. I used to be a lot more active but switched most of my attention over to the VS forum a couple years ago. Like many others, I was growing impatient with the inability to connect with the team and the years-long wait for basic function tools.
Like you, I was amazed by the way @vectoradmin welcomed and implemented ideas and suggestions in a timely manner. I think I'm a bit spoiled expecting weekly updates!

VS is something special indeed and I finally feel like I have a long term answer to my vector design needs. I learned not to expect any program to be like another because it's easy to want something a certain way more because we are familiar with it in other programs. This risks ingenuity and the possibility of finding and learning a better solution. I was guilty of this a lot on the other forum and had to learn it there and have carried it over. I still push hard for the features I used prior, that I feel are the best fit. I also try to suggest the tools I used daily in other vector apps and remain open to alternative solutions.

I agree VS needs some UI attention and stability fixes. I'm sure as we all continue to dig further into the program, we'll find more things to request modifications on.

@Ingolf Yes, this happens. I will try to improve the Layer preview refreshes.
Any UI (or other) improvement suggestion is much welcome.

@Ingolf The layer panel preview redraw problem should be fixed now.
