Text Labeling Options - Bullets, Numbers not working

Hello,
I was attempting to add bullets to some text.- The interface (as seen in the image below) looks like it is not displaying correctly.
- The preview is on but the bullet does not display. Hitting "Ok" does not add the bullet.
- I successfully added the number "1" using the Labelling Options > Type > Numbering option (second text line in the image below), but the > Formats option only displays the "1, 2, 3, 4..." Other options, like "a, b, c, d..." do not display at all.
