Selection behaviour
-
My screen looks quite busy but I do know what I want to select, however when moving the mouse everything gets a focus border, and a little snapping crosshair towards the edges. Snapping is disabled. This is driving me a little bit nuts and I am sure it is just a setting. I just want to select what is under my mouse pointer. How can I change this view/behaviour?
I am not even sure what to ask for, but a little video of what I see may provide further understanding:

Another thing that I do not understand, not sure if it is a bug. I have an object on my canvas that shows a weird size for the selection outline. I first thought there was a stray object on the canvas but that is not the case. When I hide it, it becomes clear it is a larger rectangle. In outline view it looks normal, so wondering what may be happening here.

to your first question
i am not sure if your Obejcts are grouped or combined ?
it could also be that the "Magic Wand" Selection is the cause
set it to "Box Selection" and try then
.
.your second question
i guess that could be a Nodes Transfom Frame
for what ever reason

disable with the Settings -> Selection -> Show Nodes when Hovering checkbox.

Not clear from the recording what can cause this. Could be something in the parent group. Send me the file by email and I will try to replicate the issue.

Okay - that is better..
Is there also a way to not have that snapping cross? For example, it is really hard to pick the background rectangle visually whilst it is visible in the striped center area and on the outer edges. Also the rectangle behind the 'raindrops' cannot be picked visually as the little snapper always selects a drop.

Settings -> Selection -> Detect Hovering Node

This is rect11429, and it shows a smaller outline due to the "Select Size" shape effect (seen in Shape Effects panel).
I think this is a bug (only as an indication of the shape), I will try to find a solution.
The "Select Size" effect is added to an object when using those round knobs in the Transform panel. But it is only useful when selecting the size form a number variable.
Remove this will fix all.

@VectorStyler I was not even aware that I created shape effects. I tinkered a lot with this file, and replaced a lot of shapes and alignments (and tried to get it pixel perfectly aligned for a repeating tile) so I cannot even describe its journey.
Is there a way to sort of flatten (or 'bake') the final set of transformations such that these shape effects are applied and then removed?

Excellent! That works much better for me.

@VectorStyler For the file that I've sent you, I cannot make the 'replace colour>replace colour' work at all. Does this have to do with the organisation of the file? It does pick up the colour scheme correctly but it does not swap colours at all. When I try this on a newly created file with just a few objects this method does work. I am very confused and trying to figure out if there is some sort of pattern here.
Steps:
Select all
Replace colour > Replace colour with:- exact
- palette from preset
- preview
Sometimes I can get the background rectangle to recolour, but not anything else on the canvas.

@syllie I opened a bug and this and will try to replicate it.

@syllie These bugs with the Replace Color were replicated and they should be fixed now.

@VectorStyler Oh my gosh you made my day!
The good news: it is working, but with 'some settings'
The bad news: there are still bugs, and it will take me some time to go through all the options to give you complete feedback.
An obvious one: output colours in dialog not updated, preview is, and the change actually goes through (so just a visual thing): https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cTnliJnhrQN
Also I am not sure about the 'Color Mode' option. The function works when I leave it at HSI. I am inclined to switch it to RGB as my palette and target are RGB. But doing so makes the whole thing not work. Note that my starting point is immediately following the previous video. https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cTnliPnhrX4
As mentioned before this dialog is quite complex and I may not understand all functionality as intended. I noticed for example that in the last demo I did not pick a palette, but it used the last one anyways.
At any rate: I am pretty stoked as now I can selectively recolour designs, and map colours between palette colors.

@syllie I will try to replicate these issues.
