Affinity Designer import

  • The latest beta (1.4 beta 2) of the clunky (but steadily improving) Inkscape now includes the ability to import Affinity Designer graphics. I haven't tried it yet, but it might be worth looking into.

There must be inspiration for an import filter, and there must be some kind of business case in this for Vectorstyler.

There are a quite a few people who have been waiting in vain for Serif and their products to become mature and professional, not to mention getting a satisfactory feature set. There’s probably a large number of people like me who can’t wait to completely leave Serif’s products behind, so we can focus time and investments on professional software that takes the customer, their work, and their needs seriously.

@Ingolf This is very interesting. I have to test this how it behaves with vectors.

The Affinity file format is not documented, and it is a container format for all of their apps, so I don;t expect to be simple.

If these guys reverse engineered it, then maybe it is possible to derive a documentation from it.

  • No, it's probably not simple, but perhaps this project could be of some help. I'm sure they've reverse-engineered it. I hope you can find a good lead.

It's precisely a format shared by all three applications, so I hope the vectors are reasonably separate and identifiable.

    My big curiosity is whether it's a spaghetti format—or if it's well-designed.
