Erase option for the pen tool that uses node/path ability to create the erased shape?

What about the possibility of adding to the erase function of the pen tool by utilizing the precise way the pen tool can create a shape with the nodes and path? So for example, you activate the eraser option and press the modifier key and then click and create a precise shape (the modifier key temporarily auto sets the pen to "fill only" and "close path"). When the shape is closed or the pen tool is ended with letting go the option key, the shape is deleted from the main selected shape below.
