Node editing impossible - hidden objects

Not long after an object is hidden, I can't move or change nodes when I select it in the layers panel.
The behavior is as follows: I click on a node with the node tool, then the object is deselected. I'm just drawing a shape with the pen, and after a few clicks around, the deselect behavior occurs.

@Ingolf Yes, this can be replicated here. Editing hidden objects is problematic.
