Cannot 'clear all overrides' in Character panel

  • Cannot 'clear all overrides' in Character panel

    The following happens:

    • I past or type new point text
    • format the text in the Character panel
    • want to clear all overrides
      Nothing happens.

    Start searching solutions:

    • convert text to 'Frame Text'

    • clear all overrides
      Nothing happens.

    • convert text again from 'Frame Text' to 'Shape Text'

    • clear all overrides
Yes! text goes back to default Times 12.

Get it done but not pleasant and reliable.
    Something wrong?

    NB
is the name point- or shape text? I come across both names for the same thing, right? Confusing.

@Ayo said in Cannot 'clear all overrides' in Character panel:

is the name point- or shape text?

It is "shape text", but for "compatibility" it is also called point text.
The VS term for this text is "shape text" because it is a "shape" like any other shape that can be used for objects or clipping.

About the character overrides: top level overrides are not cleared, just local formatting (for example changing the font or size of a few characters).

  • What is 'Top Level'?
Where does 'Local formatting' begin and where does it end?
Got 1 Shape Text with two words; 'River Name' in Roman
    Make "Name" Bold for example
Clear overrides > goes back to Roman

    To understand...
Is it Vectorstylers AI's choice or does it go back to last initial AND global values?
(If you may say "global" for such a tiny text shape.)

Works like a charm and fast by the way, the instant access to curve the baseline. No finicky messing around with text on paths (.ai) ideal for labeling curved cartographic roads or rivers. Nice!

@Ayo In this case "top level" means the character formatting applied to the whole text (as an object).
And "local" means character formatting on any part less than the whole.

Of course, this is easy to change if it is really needed, not sure how it is done in other parts 🙂
