Set the Rotation Point manually doesnt work as expected
-
The manual setting of the pivot point works
with Object > Transform > Rotate and
Object > Transform > Transform > RotateBut it does not work with the Transform panel
Input Field Rotateand also not with 90 degree tools
It would be nice if the latter two
would also work as expected when
I set the pivot point manually
-
@Subpath Click on the active rotation center knob in the transform panel (form those 9 knobs) to deactivate it.
Then the transform panel will also handle rotation center from the canvas. Otherwise, the active knob sets the center.
-
Thanks, that would never have occurred to me
because it is not needed under Object > Transpose > Rotateand the 90 degree Tools, still rotate around theire midpoint
-
@VectorStyler @Subpath I also would never have guessed that the knob in the 9-point selector could be turned off.
I do understand that it support multi operations in the transform panel, and only covers the rotate operation in the rotate panel, but the behaviour is a bit unexpected.
Perhaps if the objects pivot point is not the center, should it (and could it?) be turned off in the rotate panel?

Clearly, it is difficult to find this feature, since there is nothing to indicate that this is possible.
The problem of linking the the on canvas rotation center with the panel knob, is that when the panel knob is set, it will change the on canvas center also. And this will restrict the options to the user, in the case where the on canvas rotation center should be kept, but the panel rotation should be centered for example.

I re-read this quite a few times, but cannot wrap my head around it. I got the message that it is complicated

Yes, it gets a bit complicated. But it is basically about having the option to rotate things from the center (or a corner), without changing the rotation center.
