Bug / feature in shape builder tool

The video should describe the issue okay but in words... if I use divide on these three ellipses and activate the shape editor I see more or less the expected number of nodes.
The second I activate the shape builder tool I see more and results are less than great sometimes.
I discovered this when using the shape builder on various shapes that were the result of divide operations.
You can see nodes come and go when I toggle between shape editor and shape builder tool.

Cutting with the knife and trying to use the shape builder results in lots of nodes:

@Ingolf Yes, the Divide results in overlapping edges and these are difficult to handle for the shape builder (as well as subsequent boolean operations).
I have an open bug on these issues.
