Option-Dragging Query.

  • On Mac, and using the transform tool, when option-dragging a selected group, it correctly duplicates the selected group leaving the original deselected and the new duplicate selected, but if the group is not selected then option-dragging only duplicates the object that is being dragged and not the complete group - it (annoyingly 🙂 ) also keeps it as part of the same group rather than a cloned entity.
Based on the use of various other graphic apps, this is not the way I would expect it to work - whether the object is selected or not, option+dragging should simply duplicate the object or if a group, the complete group.
Is this the way it was intended to function, and if so, is there a way to change it ?

    TIA

@Igull I think here we have two features collide into an apparent bug. But it does work the way it was intended.

Option+Click will "deep select" into the group.

This can be configured into a different modifier, or turned of in the Preferences -> Modifier Keys -> "Select Inside Groups" item.

So an option+click+drag will deep select a single object inside a group, and duplicate it, but keeping it in the same group.
Same would happen if selected in the Layers panel and then option+dragged on the canvas.

Thanks for that, issue solved - had to do a "show all" inside the modifier keys to find it - bitten again by the default prefs 🙂
