File thumbnail / preview

I thought I read about this but couldn't find it now... is it possible to get a file preview thumbnail visible in the OS desktop, open dialogs etc? I'd love to see something representative of the first page (Canvas / Artboard) and possibly upwards of 512px. Can this work - and across platforms?
