Request to use current color for gradient when changing fill style from solid to gradient

Would it be possible that when changing the fill from solid to gradient , the color is automatically used as both components of the gradient.
If it is technically possible, from my point of view it would be best if such a gradient was created from a base color and its darker version.
Currently the default is B&W.
Changing from gradient to solid could also take one of the colors.
This is where I think such a fix would improve the workflow.

@encart This refers to the gradient selected in the Fill popup from the context panel?
I added this to the backlog, but it will work only when the gradient Shape is selected.
When a gradient preset is selected in the panel, the colors are set from the preset.
