Improvement of info about path and view in finder via tabs
-
The ability to option-click a a tab to reveal the file in Explorer/Finder is a viable option, but I would never have found info on the option - probably.
I suggest a two-line tooltip for each tab:
FULL PATH
SHORTCUT HELPresulting in (macOS) ->
/Users/Ruprecht/Designs/Vectorstyler/Boolean examples.vstyler
Press Option+file tab to show in Finder

To me that seems overly complicated. Vectorstyler is already a visually complex UI. I do agree the shortcuts like this should be added in the documentation and PDF so it's easy to find and learn. Little shortcuts like this should probably also be collected into a YouTube video. I'll start a thread on the forum where we can collect different shortcuts like this one that may not be otherwise known and I'd be happy to turn it into a YouTube video.
It's not possible to both give every hidden tool and shortcut a tool tip and place on the UI and also keep the UI clean and not overwhelming to the user. @Ingolf you speak often of simplistic UI but you advocate for things that would seemingly accomplish the opposite effect.
Professional designers on the whole are expected to memorize shortcuts if they use the program consistently. If that is not something you do well, there are also some great options for adding your own shortcuts to the keyboard shortcuts or through something like stream deck.
I only asked about this shortcut now because it wasn't working as expected

Dreamed from time to time of a shortcut search function.
where I get a List whats with Ctrl connected, or key combinations.

I requested a search functionality with filtering function months ago:
Please continue in the linked thread about search functionality. Not this one.

@Ingolf A tooltip for the document tabs wouldn't hurt. But like Boldline says, it might add visual noise.
Maybe a third alternative is a good option — just change the ⊗ button to a small document icon after >1 second hover, so the user knows that if it clicks the name it will open the Finder location.
Btw, Preview on the Mac does this: https://recordit.co/lBQp6P7zdo

@Subpath I posted a sortable HTML table in the thread @Ingolf mentioned:

It's hard to see the coherence of the argument, to say the least. Seriously, then ANY tooltip is visual noise, haha. If I hover over any toolbar from left to right I get all tooltips in the current version of VS with no delay. Quite a few in just a second or two. I haven't seen that problem mentioned before coincidentally I requested another tooltip.
You would only see the tooltip when hovering the mouse above the tabs. A 1 or 2 second delay before showing any tooltip was once a standard in many programs which I still think was the most logical solution for everyone. Immediate tooltips don't bother me personally, but a slight delay might then make superusers more comfortable.
I don't need tooltips every time I make the pointer hover over an icon. Immediate tooltips don't bother me, but then a little delay might make super users more comfortable. @VectorStyler I've seen several programs have tooltip delay as an option. That would be a key way to deal with this vexing problem.
Anyway, I use a program that does show the document path when hovering above tabs and I bloody love it. Mentioning the "View in Finder" shortcut would be sportsmanlike. Making it a RTFM benefit no so much.

https://vectorstyler.com/forum/post/7417That would also be awesome in the online documentation but as part of the software itself - available in a snap - would be double awesome.

@Ingolf There is a 'Tool Tip Delay' setting in Preferences > User Interface.

Haha of course there is - excellent. I see no issues at all introducing a tab tool tip.

This is in the backlog, I will try to bring it in for 1.2
