Shape is stretching in an unorthodox manner
-
What setting do I need to adjust so I can stretch a shape the normal way?
-
@Boldline It looks like the shape is inside a transformed group? I will check if this could cause issues.
Doing a "Convert to Curves" on the top group may fix this.
-
@vectoradmin ok I'll send you the file directly for you to check if that's ok. I'll just send the file itself, you can tell by the video where the issue is
-
@Boldline Got it!
Yes, the scaling is strange. It is caused by a warp effect being on the top group (the whole ball).
This warp can be removed as it does not do anything otherwise.
Normally, selection inside groups with shape effect is not allowed, except from the Layers panel. That is why the first two selection modes are not working. The third tool selects the actual shape (without selecting the object, this is a VS thing),This is only useful for composite shapes, and when scaling inside a distorted group, it may not show the scaling correctly.

Got your email on this as well. Interesting about the warp. I remember trying to click on the text in front of the ball to warp that and got the ball instead. I may not have hit undo and just clicked off again thinking the ball was therefore not affected. Apparently I was wrong.
This solves another issue I had not posted yet from the same file - because I was double clicking the ball to isolate it and it was giving me the warp blue dots instead and that made no sense at the time.
Thanks for helping solve that. I'll be mindful about the warp -
do you think there's a better way to be sure it does not stay there if the warp was not modified? Or are we better off just converting to curves each time we end up accidentally clicking on an object we don't want warped?

How specifically did you remove this?
-
@Boldline I select the group (with the first selection mode in the context panel).
The Shape Effects panel will show all the shape effects applied to it.
This will be a Transform and a Warp.
Click at the remove (x) icon at the end of the Warp row.
