@Boldline Did you Option-click the button? Option-click creates a composite object from two or more shapes.

It could be that the selected group has the boolean operation applied to it (same as in AI), or a composite shape is selected that uses the highlighted boolean op.
Both are non-destructive, so it is indicated as the active shape composition mode.
