Grouping styles for organization ( accumulated )
-
Notice: Accumulated into mega-topic.
The docs at link under section "Managing Styles":
Group Selected - Group the selected styles into a folder.
I can't see this option in the hamburger menu from the Styles panel when multiple styles are selected, either of the same or different types.
Is this not possible anymore?
-
@Nils Were those selected styles created in the Styles panel (create commands) or from objects with roles?
-
@vectoradmin Objects with roles.
-
@Nils Those cannot be grouped (deleted, copied, exported, or organized in general).
There are also styles that are created in the panel, these commands refer to that kind of styles.
-
@vectoradmin Could this be changed in the future?
Use case:
If I have a group on a reference canvas, which holds objects with roles used for related styles, I'd like to have a way to group them in the panel.
Right now, when for example having the object reference structure..
- group "lamp glow opacity"
- object "inner": role "Object Style"
- object "outer": role "Object Style"
..one would like to have in the panel a folder "lamp_glow_opacity" with the styles named "inner" and "outer" in it.
Instead I have to prefix them both with "lamp_glow_opacity" and affix the respective locations.Any workaround for now?
- group "lamp glow opacity"
-
@Nils I add this to the backlog.
-
@Nils said in Grouping styles for organization:
No workaround at this time.
- group "lamp glow opacity"
Would "Layers" instead of "groups" be better for this? Use layer hierarchy to create folder structure.
-
@vectoradmin Not seeing right now how layers would create a folder structure in the styles panel. Or is this just a FYI?

Now, this is just a question on how it would be better to do it in the future.
There is no folder structure for role based styles at this time.

@vectoradmin I see. Groups would be more convenient I think. It would be nice if either
- styles from object references would appear in a group in the styles panel automatically if they are in an object group, the name being fetched from the group
- object groups could be applied a "Style Group" role, that would accomplish the same
