      These symbols usually have to be half width(spacing) by default in Japanese regardless of its position.

            @vectoradmin

            Revision for the rules. my explanation was not proper.

            1. please add a Mojikumi preset that makes all symbols half width.(Yakumono Hankaku)

            2. please add a preset that uses the rules below

            • basically all symbols are normal width.
            • opening brackets(quotes) following another symbol or space have to be half width.
            • punctuations(、。,.) followed by a bracket(quote) have to be half width.
            • closing brackets(quotes) followed by a punctuation(、。,.) have to be half width.

            Regardless of which preset:
            These should be half width by default.
            ・:;.

            P.S.
            Please forget about "symbol following another symbol shouldn't be half width."

              @vectoradmin

              Also opening brackets(quotes) always have to be half width when they're at the start of the line.
              ([{〈《「『【〔〖〘〚〝

              Paragraphs usually starting from a space(Japanese space which is double width) and if a opening bracket follows the space, it has to be half width.
              (actually opening brackets(quotes) following a space have to be half width regardless of its position.)

                One question: are the half width rules apply when these characters are rotated for vertical typesetting?

                I will be back with more questions down the road (want to get this right).

                  @vectoradmin Yes, it will be applied to both horizontal writing and vertical writing.

                    I have posted a proposal (f) for a future version. This is a pending project.

                    If ash-f understands Japanese, why don't we exchange ideas with each other before suggesting it to Vectoradmin?

                    Japanese character typesetting is based on a very complex set of rules.
                    The JIS X 4051 standard specified by the Japanese Industrial Standards is the basis for this.

                    However, now in the digital age, in Japan, each industry and each designer tends to make their own industry rules based on this regulation.
                    As I mentioned in my previous post, I don't think VS needs to deal with all of these, it should implement a minimum set of typographic rule patterns and leave the local rules to the users to customize.
                    I think the Mojikumi feature needs the following improvements
                    Show type preview in customize screen.
                    Import mojikumi data from InDesign, etc.

                      @861475_VctSt @ash-f Some of the Japanese typography support issues are still open, including adding better defaults.

                        Is there a list of symbols that should be half width?
