My intuition is not working with VectorStyler

  • Hi! Im trying to figure basic things in Vector styler following what i do in other programs like inkscape, etc.. I cant figure how tools work. Im reading the manual, but i dont found the way. I uploaded this little video, trying to use the eraser tool, but no luck. Can you pointing me to some basic training in vectorstyler? It works a little different what im customed in other programs
Here is the link to the little video

  • I saw that you where trying to erase the shape with the path eraser tool. This tool will erase only the path of the shape and not the shape. I think you should use the Eraser Tool instead. This will erase the shape. You can find it in the drop down where you also have found the other tool (it looks like a pencil with eraser).

@marce The selected tool is not the regular eraser tool, but a "node" eraser.

You need to use an other tool to erase from shapes:

  • @VectorStyler Great! Thanks both! It worked as you stated.

  • @marce I'd recommend you to check the tutorial section of this forum where several users have posted good tips & tricks.
I've posted a couple beginner-friendly videos on Youtube (links in the tutorial section) that should get you started with the Vectorstyler way of working

  • @EricP Hi Eric! Thanks! Could you link some of them?
I usually use programs trying to found by myself the way. I found vectorstyler a little intimidating to me, even i have some experience. I will dedicate some time to learn it i guess, since i see good things i can do with it.

"My intuition is not working with VectorStyler"

This thought kept coming back to me while using VectorStyler.
This still happens to me occasionally.

I come from CorelDRAW, know and have used many other vector graphics programs.
But my first step with VS led me straight to this forum with my first question, which
was, of course, very simple. In all the other vector graphics programs I had used
previously, I could easily find the answer myself.

Here one of my very first post in VectorStyler Forum
    https://www.vectorstyler.com/forum/topic/844/new-user-i-stuck-with-a-simple-thing

This was my first "aha" moment.

I should mention that I'm perhaps a bit unconventional when it comes to vector graphics
and computer graphics in general, and I love it when someone explores new and previously
uncharted territory. I see no problem in embracing this approach if I consider it an
enrichment and expansion of graphic possibilities. Furthermore, I'm absolutely not a fan of
handling everything the way it's done in Adobe Illustrator just to maintain familiar workflows.

So, after my "aha!" moment with VectorStyler, I stopped expecting VS to handle things
in the usual way. Of course, you still occasionally think in familiar terms. But all the programs,
using my usual logic, couldn't offer me the wealth of features that VectorStyler provides.
So, I can live with the fact that I sometimes get stuck; I can always ask for help here.
