Warp with top object
-
Just wondering if there is a warp with top object feature like Illustrator or something similar?
-
@Dazmondo Almost: this would be envelope using the shape from another object.
The way to do this in VS:- first create an envelope effect on an object, using the Shape Effects panel
- select the object with the envelope, and the object whose shape is to be used.
- in the Shape Effects panel, highlight the Envelope item and in the panel menu select Pick Shape.
- this copies the shape (from the second object) as an envelope shape.
And another (more VS) way:
- assign the Shape role and a name for shapes that might be used as Envelope shapes (this can be done in Object Options).
- in the Envelope effect options (opened with the arrow), select the shape in the Shape field.

@VectorStyler I assigned a 'Shape Effect' role and wondered why it didn't show up in the Envelope's Shape dropdown menuโฆ i decided what @Dazmondo asked is not possible.
So it has to be the 'Shape' roleโฆ What cases is the 'Shape Effect' role used for? What's the difference?

@b77 said in Warp with top object:

The "Shape Effect" role is when a shape effect on the object (with the role) is to be reused as a style.
For example: it is possible to setup a warp effect on an object, give the object a name (ex "my effect") and the Shape Effect role.
Then the "my effect" will show up in the Styles drop down of the Shape Effects panel, and can be added as an effect.
Then editing the effect on the original object, will also update all objects where "my effect" is used.

@VectorStyler I just tried it here โ cool!
-
@b77 And it works with combinations of shape effects also: setup multiple effects on an object and treat it as a single effect style.
-
@b77 A similar thing exists for Image Effects also
-
@VectorStyler I tried by assigning an 'Image Effect' role to a shape with a blur effect, but this one doesn't seem to work: https://recordit.co/ovfaQnTiQD

@b77 Yes, there seems to be a bug here, can be replicated!
