Neon tubes - just an example from Vectorstyler (image effects)
-
I followed some tutorials for Affinity Designer when I made my first attempts at simulating neon light effect from neon tubes. None of them were good at all (obviosly made by hobby designers) and I found the effects in Affinity Designer flat and synthetic. I can see the algoritms in AD are rather basic.
So I gave Vectorstyler a shot - it was a great opportunity to see how the image effects perform in Vectorstyler. It didn't take me long to create this example that to me looks amazing considering I never did it before almost and it took only a few attempts to get it that beautiful.
Look at how the glow effect blends naturally where two tubes are close to each other. Even gets brighter. (Click on image to see bigger version).
I have some feedback and bug reports though. And perhaps a how-to when I am more experienced with this neon stuff.
Just wanted to share the algorithms at play, really.

@Ingolf very cool!
Looking forward to the how-to.
