Issue 1
Yes, this is intended. The original object is still selectable and can be copied (similar to Blend).
Issue 2
No this seems to be a bug, send me the file.
Issue 3
The original and the contour are separate objects. Group these two and then scale.
Same with the blend effect: group the 3 objects (starting, blend, ending).
