Trouble with Eraser tools

Path Eraser Tool duplicates instead of erasing.

Why is there such a big difference between the approach of the Shape eraser tool and Path eraser Tool?
Is the current Shape Eraser tool not very unfortunate with the double a-centric circles and the enormous crosshair X shape?
Wouldn't these two symbols be better related? Something like this?

@Ayo Looks like the path eraser tool has a bug when erasing the whole shape.
Added these issues to the backlog.
