Improving the Polygonal Lasso

I was playing around with the polygonal lasso and felt it could be made more intuitive with a few improvements.
Is it possible to give the lasso a preview option when using it, much like the lasso? When you us the lasso, the light blue selection area is constantly updated and when you let go, it becomes an active selection. Could that blue preview be active wherever you move the cursor?- also similar in concept to the pen tool predicting the path as you move around the cursor.
The polygonal lasso requires multiple clicks of the mouse, so letting go to make it an active selection would not work.
What about an option to close the selection (adding an indicator when you are over top the first node again) and then have it become an active selection?
This is a quick mockup of the way the polygonal lasso would look midway through selection.... the cursor in this case would be where the bottom node is now and hovering over that spot about to click - so the blue is predicting where it would be selected based on cursor position

You pulled a fast one here and got it done a lot sooner! I love the improvements to the polygonal lasso - it's much more intuitive and easy to see the selection being made. thank you.
Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on adding a slight magnetic pull to "close" where once the selection closes, it converts automatically to a live selection?
I know I can draw a selection around something and not even worry about closing it and just double click and it will turn to a selection - I think part of this for me is that I naturally like to close things and partially because I don't always want to have to double click to convert it to a selection. I guess I'm asking for a second way of closing the polygonal lasso selection besides just a double click - what are your thoughts?
