Rotate canvas to the angle between two selected nodes
-
I like that VectorStyler’s Align tools follow the canvas rotation. This makes it possible to select nodes and align them precisely along an angled axis. I can enter an angle in the bottom left corner and it will auto-rotate to that position.
However, the current workflow is lacking in situations where the canvas angle needs to match existing geometry. This is a very common occurance in my overall workflow. I have to determine the angle of a path, enter that angle manually into the canvas rotation field, align the nodes, and then reset the canvas.
It would be useful if VectorStyler could have a command that would calculate and use the angle between two selected nodes.
For example:
- Select two nodes.
- VectorStyler calculates the angle of the line between them.
- Choose Rotate View to Selected Nodes.
- The canvas rotates to that exact angle.
- Select other nodes and align them using the normal Align tools.
The same command could also work with a selected straight path segment. Another option would be allowing the View Rotation tool to snap directly to two selected nodes or a selected path segment.
A command such as View > Rotate View to Selection (with the ability to set a custom keyboard shortcut and the ability to customize it as an option with the secondary cursor menu) would remove the need to measure and enter angles manually, making angled node alignment faster and more precise.
This would be a real game-changer for someone in my position - thanks!

Addendum: The canvas would not necessarily need to rotate for this feature to work.
VectorStyler could calculate the angle between the two selected nodes and automatically enter that value into the Alignment panel’s Angle field. The normal alignment tools could then align other selected nodes along that exact angle.
Rotating the canvas view to the same angle could be an optional command. The main request is for VectorStyler to calculate and use the angle between two selected nodes automatically.

@Boldline I added this to the backlog of features, should not be difficult

@VectorStyler Thank you. Glad to hear it's not too complicated request!
