Basically, when I am merging two shapes (one with a gradient), I want to be able to say which object is the "main" so that gradient Object within it with its current position will be honored.

When I try with a fill or an object containing another gradient, it merges them, but it elongates the line, so it removes the original positioning. Sometimes I just need to extend a shape to fill up a space.

Perhaps a "lock" option for a gradient would suffice if I can continue to patch/stitch up a path as I work on it, without effecting the appearance.

Video of what I mean: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AuWHX0h5bAoRipMMYVjAiwI9oWnj7g?e=3B2WXq

Perhaps there is a way to do something like this already. In any case, a workaround would be appreciated.

@debraspicher I will try to find a way to add this. This has been reported before.

The Style Picker may be helpful here

before merging your shapes put a copy
          with the gradient aside

then use the Style Picker to apply the gradient
          to the new shape

          Here a video

          CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, 6-core.
          GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070.

@Subpath This method still has some deviations. Currently, there are several software options available that can maintain consistent gradient bleed, such as Artpro+, Deskpack, Packz, PaSharp, Pitstop, etc. However, their prices are quite high.

@Subpath Thanks! I forgot about Style Picker. I'll try using that for sure.

                your welcome

                In case you don't know:
If you use one of these pickers
(doesn't work with the color picker
                second from the left)

and hold down the CTRL key, you can temporarily
switch to the Transform tool to be able to select
                a different shape

                Win 11
                CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, 6-core.
                GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070.
