How to clear selection while in Node Tool mode?
-
clicking on a empty place of the canvas works also here for deselecting
I know but I introduced my question with:
"working deeply, zoomed in on a drawing it is not possible to click next to the drawing to deselect or to clear the selection"to exit a selection is possible with “Ctrl+Shift+a”
That's a complex yoga for such a common task. Same for AI.
I had the idea that it might be possible to assign deselect to a mouse button if you have a few
Good idea! I have a middle mouse button. How to assign the command to that button?
Well, Escape would be the easiest, like CDR does it.
Agree, CDR means Coreldraw I suppose.
By the way! Escape does work for the Transform Tool

Keyboard shortcuts are in
View > Customize > Keyboard ShortcutsIn V 1.2 beta Vectorstyler > Keyboard Shortcuts
I don't think there would be any conflict to use it to deselect nodes as well?
Looks lik it works but have to dive into the isolation function first. Don't understand behaviour and function. Different than AI because you can not edit in isolation (wich is is very helpfull).

@VectorStyler Can the app have two shortcuts for the same action — Cmd-Shift-A and Escape in this case?
(Apologies if it's a stupid idea).

Yes, of course.
But in this case the Escape deselect would be baked into the Node editor (just like it is now for the Transform tool).

@b77 I tested this, and there is no need to change anything. Just define the Escape as a special Node editor shortcut (Keyboard Shortcuts -> Context -> Path Editing).

i can live with it how it actually is
i dont use Shortcuts most of the time
and i deselect by clicking on the Canvas somewherei dont do pro work any more, so i can work as slow as i like
no need to hurry for me

@VectorStyler I would include this among the default node editing shortcuts, for former CDR users.

Agree
The more 'install and play' hassle free the better. So Escape as a default 'clear selection' for the Transform Tool as well as the node editor would be a good idea if possible. A kind of universal 'clear' regardless of the tool in question.

Will be added.
