File crashes when opening
-
Yes I did, thank you.
-
@coolio00111 The fix for this error will be in the next build.
As a workaround for now, I recommend setting the "File Format" mode to "Binary" in the Document Setup.
The problem occurs when the "Compact" (default) format mode is used with certain image types.
-
@VectorStyler ok, thanks
-
@VectorStyler VectorStyler v1.1.072 and v1.1.073 always crash on my system too. I tried to open @coolio00111 's file and it also crashed on my laptop (Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with the latest version of Windows 11)
I can't find the crash log file in C:\Users<user>\NumericPath and C:\Users<user>\NumericPath\VectorStyler1.0
Please fix this as soon as possible, because I can't open many important files now
-
@gotanidea Hi there! I understand the frustration, but the developer did mention he already found the issue and it will be fixed in the next build. He also shared a workaround for the time being until the next build is released. did you see those comments in this thread?
-
@Boldline I read about the workaround, but it's only useful if I make a new document
-
@gotanidea I will try to have the new build released in the next 24 hours.
In the meanwhile, I can convert any files with issues.BTW: it might be that these file crashes are caused by different bugs, so if you send me a file by email, that crashes I can test it here.
-
@VectorStyler I just sent an example file and the crash log file to csraba@vectorstyler.com. You will be able to open it on your system, because the linked images aren't embedded in the VectorStyler file. Unfortunately, I can't share the linked images (the bitmap files), but I think you can use the VectorStyler file for investigation.
As for the file conversion, I can't share those files, so I will just wait for the new build. Thanks
-
@gotanidea Got the file. The new build will be up soon, and it should fix the crashing, no need to share other files.
-
@VectorStyler I'd like to let you know that the file I sent and @coolio00111 's file still make VectorStyler v1.1.074 crash on my system (Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with the latest version of Windows 11)
-
For what it's worth, I tested the @coolio00111 file again with build 74 and it worked correctly. (it had crashed VS for me each time I attempted it in build 73)
-
@gotanidea I keep this issue open, but I have to replicate it.
So for it seems to be opening fine on both Windows 10 and 11, and also on Macs (Intel and M1).
One thing to try is to restore the app to defaults by holding control+alt+shift while starting it.
-
@gotanidea Can you send me the crash logs from the latest crash of 1.1.074
-
@VectorStyler I just emailed the crash log file, generated from the opening of @coolio00111 's file (the file name is 5 fold card_2.vstyler)
-
@gotanidea One other thing: what is selected in the Preferences -> Performance -> Compute Engine?
Try selecting software, restart, and then open the file.
-
@VectorStyler I tried both Software and Nvidia CUDA Compute Engine.
I also checked and unchecked the Rendering, Document and Image Threads. When they are checked, the values are 16.
I have restarted my computer as well, but the files still crash VectorStyler
-
@VectorStyler I found that it is the Links panel that always crashes VectorStyler. If we don't show it before opening the problematic VectorStyler file, the application will not crash.
To reproduce the crash:
- Open any VectorStyler file or create a new document. Make sure the Links panel appears. Close it.
- Open the problematic VectorStyler file. The application will crash.
The workaround:
- Open any VectorStyler file or create a new document. Make sure the Links panel doesn't appear. Close it.
- Open the problematic VectorStyler file. The application will not crash.
I tested this with the file I emailed and @coolio00111 's file
-
@gotanidea Thanks for finding the issue. Yes, sometimes panels (as are updated for the opened) file may be part of the problem.
I can replicate this on Windows (does not crash on Mac).
I will try to have the fix in the next build, meanwhile as a workaround, keep the Links panel closed when opening documents
-
@gotanidea I uploaded a new build that should fix the Links panel crash when opening files.
-
@VectorStyler Thanks Admin. I can open the files with the Links panel now
