Creating a reference canvas fails

Open the Canvas & Artboard panel and see if the canvas shows up there, after creating it.Some explanation: in VS a Canvas is not an Artboard.
A canvas may contain any number of artboards arranged in any positions. Only one canvas is visible at a time.
canvases of a document can be browsed using the Canvas & Artboard panel.

Unfortunately it didn't show up.

@Nils Yes, in the recording it also seems that no canvas is created.
Create a new reference canvas (even if it does not create), save the resulting file and send it to me by email.I just want to check if creation fails, or it creates in the wrong place in the canvas hierarchy.
