Option Key with Transform tool temporary lasso selection issue update

I've loved the addition of the option key modifier with the transform tool to get a temporary lasso selection but it's never stayed around long for me in my use of VS. It's often one of the first features to stop working suddenly at some point in the process. Sometimes quitting the file and reopening would restart the capability again for a period of time before it stopped functioning again.
Interestingly, opened a file I designed yesterday and the modifier function did not work at all (VS was freshly opened) but if I made a new file, it would work there. Here you can see me switch between a brand new file and a file I made yesterday and the modifier function fails in the old file but works fine right now in the new one. I'll keep tabs on this new file to see how long it lasts.
This seems to show me as an untrained developer is that the modifier issue is on the file level, not system-wide.

@Boldline I am experiencing this problem on Windows as well. However, I have not been able to find a rule that would trigger deactivation.

@encart I'm sorry you are also dealing with it, but also glad it's not just me! Hopefully the fact that it's not an anomaly with me will result in it eventually being tracked down
