Keep selection to be erased visibly selected while using eraser tool

When I make a selection to erase from, when I switch over to the eraser tool, the selection does not remain visibly selected - I know it's still selected because after I go over it, only the selected portion is affected. It would be easier if the selection remained highlighted during the process

@vectoradmin This is what I'm used to, coming from Illustrator. I've gotten used to having visual confirmation of what is selected and being altered... especially when I am selecting one thing to isolate it before erasing it in part while not affecting shapes directly underneath.
It does not have to be just like Illustrator's solution -
