Transforming selected path segments involves adjacent not selected segments

When I select path segments by selecting their nodes and use the transform tool, also adjacent segments are transformed.
Here is a screenshot, which describes better what I mean:
In a way, the result is logical because the outer handles of the leftmost and rightmost nodes are also selected and should therefore also be transformed. However, the transformation box suggests that only the inner arc is transformed, which is what I would expect.
Is there a way to transform only the part that is inside the transformation box? -
