Don't clear/erase thumbnails before updating them

My major issue with the redrawing of thumbnails is not so much the CPU used on it (when the updating is not nescassary) but that VS removes/clears the thumnails then updates them. It causes the layer panel to blink and it attracts my attention and generally annoys me.
Other programs simply update thumbnails without clearing the thumbnail area first, and that's how it should be in VS in any case.
