Artboard mess when pasting object copied from artboard

Single object copied from artboard number eg 5 results in several artboards created when using "New from clipboard".

Expected: Nothing but the object etc.

This almost new document with two artboards with shapes as simple as this one (only used copy-paste, regular dublicate and booleans ops) is drifting towards disaster, weird stuff starts to happen as you see, but here paste as new document results in something else entirely:
