Exported EPS file from VS not opening in older Corel programs
-
I created a design in VS and exported as an EPS file and sent it to my client. They tried to open it in their version of Corel (coreldraw x6) and got this error message:
I sent the same eps file to another corel user and they had no issues opening the eps file at all in their version of corel (coreldraw 2020)
So I'm not sure if the issue was in the original VS file, or in the older Corel Draw app, or what... I wanted to be sure if there was something that needed to be adjusted in the way VS esports EPS files, we addressed it. In the meantime, I saved out the VS file again, this time as an SVG file and the client was able to successfully open that file and use the design accordingly.

no problem here, win 10, CorelDraw 2020
could open and import it without any problem. And as i saw your file, there seems nothing
special some text and graphics.you could try to send him .PDF or a Ai
both as older Versions if possible
-
@Subpath Thanks for checking it there. You're using the same version of Coreldraw (2020) as my friend who was successfully able to open the eps file as you did. The issue was that my client is using Coreldraw X6, and was unable to open it with that version.
The art in the file is very basic so that should not be the issue - no gradients or the like....

as i remember right, EPS was sometimes a bit picky
a tried to avoid it back in my working days
i use most an older Ai File Version for exportbut thats a few years ago

@Boldline I will try to replicate here.
-
@Boldline I tried with Corel 2019 and the file imports correctly.
Since all are vectors, could you try with SVG, or PDF?

Yes I was able to save it out as an SVG and the client could open it successfully.
I'm not in tune with Corel and its versions at all, so I'm unaware how old CorewDraw X6 is and if the issue is worth pursuing, or if most people now use an updated version and the issue is a moot point.

@Boldline CDR X6 is ten years old…

Ahh so it's kind of like my still using CS6 for a few things in 2022!

@Subpath @b77 Believe me, as soon as VS gets the 10% of what I still need CS6 for either fixed or added - I have no problems saying goodbye to Adobe for good - especially CS6 lol

why not
Well, mainly because I use Macs and Cs6 runs only on the intel chip and on an OS that is very old. So it requires I keep around an old intel computer to make it work for me. That machine could and will eventually fail for good and I'll be in a tougher spot. Usually there are a few things daily that I need CS6 to handle that VS cannot and I worry about the day I don't have access to CS6 and need those tasks accomplishedI could still buy a newer intel mac out there and install CS6 that way - or maybe run a virtual machine. I might try the latter - we'll see.
VS is getting closer to covering all my needs and I am hoping it can do it all in the next year or two. I'd prefer to just do it all in VS and not have to find ways to keep Adobe alive in my workflow.

Edited:

a virtual machine

I'm not sure Adobe still activates their CS suites…
