Cutting live text and pasting it in the document does not work

I'm assuming this is a bug and not normal behavior for VS. If I type out a line of text and then highlight a portion and cut it and then use command-v to paste it, I don't get the live text copied to the clipboard but rather the vector stroke I had copied earlier on before typing anything. In the case of my video here, a purple stroke in the shape of an oval

Normal behavior, I'd expect the cut live text would be pasted back into VS as live text using the command-v paste option
